Carrie Underwood looks great in the recently unveiled poster for The Sound of Music.

The vegetarian country music singer is making her acting debut in the NBC version about the popular 1965 movie that starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

NBC will show the three hour live staging of the show on December 5.

Inside she tells the magazine how she’s learned to make better food choices since her American Idol days years ago.

There still must be a kid inside of her because Carrie rewards herself much like you were probably rewarded for getting all your homework done.

The country music star says she grades herself strictly and gives the “frowny” face when she doesn’t make the dinner grade.

Carrie Underwood marked the third decade of her life eating like a single because her husband Mike Fisher was ill.

The country music star had only a couple of days to break from her tour and her plans for a romantic celebration with the professional hockey player were cut due to a bout of the flu.

Carrie Underwood agrees it’s a lot easier to be a vegetarian today.

Even in the most unlikely of places.

She told Stylist magazine how easy it is for her both and her meat eating husband to agree upon a restaurant.

“I am 100 per cent vegetarian but I try my best to be vegan. It’s getting better. There are so many restaurants that will work with you – even steakhouses. My husband [ice hockey player Mike Fisher]loves to eat meat and there’s a place called King Prime that we like to go to. They’re always really nice to me and give me veggies if I ask for them. There’s loads of newer restaurants in [Nashville districts] East Nashville and The Gulch that will cater for you too…”

Carrie Underwood gave The Guardian a few minutes of her time in an interviewed filled with interesting facts about her vegetarian, pro-animal and eco-conscious lifestyle.

Growing up on a farm in Oklahoma, Underwood observed that her parents’ cows got a little “separation anxiety” before being sold, one of the many reasons why she chose to stop eating meat.
