Bob Barker takes a walk in New York City

Bob Barker is generally known in the animal rights movement as the spay and neuter guy, but he’s done much more for non-human creatures, and shows no signs of stopping.

The vegetarian has recently written to Principal Chief Hicks of  the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation in Cherokee, North Carolina, urging for an end to the tourist attraction there of bears being confined in caged pits.

“Cherokee has so much to offer, such as its beautiful mountains, museums, cultural and historical exhibits, Native American shops, friendly residents, and casino. The caged bears may have been a big attraction at one time but are now seen as an embarrassment to the community and should be permanently closed down.”

Barker isn’t the first to express dismay at the exhibit, as PETA says people have contacted them after viewing it with some of the following statements:

• “I was so upset with how sad these animals
looked.” —Visitor from Louisiana
• “This attraction is truly a disgrace to the town of
Cherokee and its tourist offerings.” —Visitor from
Illinois
• “[W]hat a sad life they live, with no access to
grass, dirt, trees, woods, etc.” —Visitor from
North Carolina

Barker himself is of Native American descent and spent many days of his youth at the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Bob Barker Says Vegetarianism Kept The Price Right For Years

Bob Barker Returns To The Price Is Right

Bob Barker invited TheInsider.com in his old dressing room on The Price Is Right when he returned to the show to promote his new book, Priceless Memories.

Bob and Drew Carey, the new host for The Price Is Right, started talking about diet and Drew wanted some veg tips to help him stick around longer.

“I did the show until I was 83. I don’t believe I could have done that had I not been a vegetarian,” Bob said.

“I became a vegetarian out of concern for animals. But very soon after I became a vegetarian, I could see why people do it out of concern for health because I had more energy and I felt better.”

Wanna know the best kiss Drew Carey ever got? It was from Bob, of course, after Drew told him he’d continue to advocate spaying and neutering pets on the show like Bob did.

You can view the video at The Insider to hear Bob talk veggie and his passion for animals.

Bob Barker Shares Priceless Memories With Animal Legal Defense Fund

Bob Barker recently spoke with Director Stephen Wells of the Animal Legal Defense Fund about his new book, Priceless Memories, which is a memoir of his love of animals throughout his personal and professional career.

Bob brought along a friend, a rescue dog named Jessie. Jessie decides to take a snooze halfway into the conversation, but don’t let that fool ya. It’s not boring!

Bob discusses his DJ&T Foundation, which subsidizes the costs of spaying and neutering pets. The foundation was named after his wife and mother, Dorothy Jo and Tillie, two good women that helped turn him around to animal compassion.

Bob Barker Returns To The Price Is Right

Bob Barker returned to the set of The Price Is Right recently to promote his new book, Priceless Memories, due out April 6th.

Proceeds from the book sales will go towards DJ&T Foundation, which he founded in 1994 to help foot the bill of spaying and neutering animals.

The longtime vegetarian is the owner of many animals himself, including two rabbits named “Mr. Rabbit,” and “Honey Bunny,” and always ended each Price Is Right show with his signature sign-off, “Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.”

Barker proved he was both a host and a comedian as two prize showcases were, cough, cough, “heavily themed” with his book.

For example, one showcase featured a computer where you could order the book, trip to New York City to buy a bundle of the books from the publisher, and a truck to haul them all back in.

Hilarious!

Priceless Memories contains Bob’s experiences as a host on several shows including The Price is Right, Truth or Consequences, Miss USA, and Miss Universe.

Favorite contestants, celebrity encounters, as well as his personal life being raised through the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl are given pages.

Some sections also discuss his passion for animal rights and include real life examples of his work, such as having an anti-fur stance for the beauty pagents he hosted.

Bob Barker Still Hooking Up With Ladies-For Animal Rights

The 34th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards - Press Room

Bob Barker is one heck of a vegetarian, who can pair up with the likes of hot chicks.

Just this weekend, he hooked up with Pamela Anderson, according to Your Daily Vegan.

Okay, okay, so it was for the sake of animal rights. And it just so happened to be they both attended the same event. But hey, how do we really know what went on at the after party…

Both animal lovers attended the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida’s 20th Anniversary Gala in Ft Lauderdale this past weekend and have had quite actives roles in animal issues.

Barker recently donated a million dollars to help create an Animal Law Program at the University of Virginia. He was also famous for reminding everyone to spay and neuter their pets at the end of every “The Price Is Right” show he hosted.

Pamela’s latest activist adventure is writing a letter to Florida’s governor Charlie Crist, in protest of road-side zoos maintained in the state.

Shown below is Pammie at the event with her new boyfriend, Jamie Padgett.

Richie Rich - Backstage - Fall 09 MBFW

Pamela Anderson will be the guest of honor at Animal Rights Foundation of Florida’s 20th Anniversary Gala on March 14 at the Broward County Convention Center in Miami, Florida.

Hopefully, she’ll be wearing more clothes than this that night.

The event will be hosted by vegetarian and animal lover Bob Barker and guests such as famous vegan Dr. Neal Barnard and Ingrid Newkirk will be able to chow down on delicious vegan grub.

The Animal Rights Foundation of Florida (ARFF) is celebrating 20 years looking out for Florida’s non human critters through education and appearances throughout the community.

Although everybody will come for the food (or in hopes Pamela Anderson will show up half naked), besides that, there will be silent and live auctions for items such as an autographed poster of Kim Basinger’s L.A. Confidential poster.

Tickets are $250 per person and all proceeds from the gala go to the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida.

Remember to spay and neuter your pets. And educate yourself on animal law.

Bob Barker has donated a million dollars to the University of Virginia Law school to help establish an animal law program, which includes a course on animal law and funding for guest speakers as well as a writing competition, according to nbc29.com.

Barker has long been both an animal rights activist and philanthropist, being an advocate for spaying and neutering cats and dogs and donating funds to other universities including Harvard, Columbia, Georgetown, Duke, Northwestern, Stanford and UCLA.

“There is definitely interest in animal law at the law school,” said the School’s Law Dean Paul Mahoney. “I think whenever you have a high profile legal case, it influences student interests, and certainly the Michael Vick case has raised awareness of animal law issues.”

If you’re a law student at U of V, you can start taking the course in the 2009-2010 school year.
