Kristin Bauer “Tails For Whales” PSA (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 16th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Videos.

True Blood‘s Kristin Bauer has recorded a public service announcement for the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s campaign Tails for Whales.

The campaign was designed to show governments around the world how many people support protecting dolphins in Japan.

One way concerned activists can do this is by taking a photograph of themselves making a dolphin “tail” with their hands (for better pictorial explanation, visit the website), and uploading it to the Tailsforwhales.org site.

Besides being counted as an activist, you can also add your picture to your blog or personal web page or any other media source that gets people to take a second look and asks, “What’s this about?”

Katy Perry Rides Elephant At Perez Hilton Carn-Evil Birthday Party

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 in Animal Issues, Female Singers.

Katy Perry attends the 23rd annual Kids' Choice Awards in Los Angeles

Katy Perry arrived at gossip blogger Perez Hilton‘s 32 Carn-Evil themed birthday bash on top an elephant.

One has to wonder if Perry already had her social drinking experience before she got there, given her choice of transportation.

Besides the obvious unanswered questions like where she parked it, did it like the hors d’ oeuvres, and did it defecate in the appropriate elephant litter box, you have to wonder how the pachyderm coped with all the noise and excitement of the party.

Commenters on PeoplePets figured the festivities were a real downer–for the elephant.

“from atop the elephant, who, according to one witness, “looked perturbed.” I’m sure the poor elephant was..”

“Katy Perry is quite the weirdo isn’t she… always out for the shock factor……Why does she have to exploit animals when doing so? Elephants should be left in the wild or a zoo if that is the last resort, not in a Circus, and not for hire for entertainment purposes. Why don’t these people get a real life!”

Whether the elephant was perturbed from the party entirely or just Lady Gaga‘s newest outfit was not reported.

The next time Perry’s invited to a party, she should leave the elephant at home in the wild or a sanctuary.

It doesn’t mind being a homebody.

Queen Guitarist Brian May Opposes Welsh Badger Cull

Queen guitarist Brian May is opposing the practice of culling badgers in West Wales as a method to prevent Bovine TB.

Although the Welsh Assembly is convinced the cull will help control the outbreak of TB in cattle, May says the decision is based on bad science.

“This would be genocide,” May, a doctorate in astronomy, said. “To me, countries do not matter; badgers are not British, they belong to the world and they belong to everyone.”

He compared the culling to solving the problem of disease in cattle to eradicating smallpox by killing people with certain hair colors.

“Anyone would think that doing that was insane, but that is what we are proposing to do to badgers.”

Dr. Christianne Glossop, the chief veterinary officer for Wales, defends the practice, citing the costs involved with the bovine TB crisis during the last decade.

The plan is to limit the cull to an area where 42% of cattle farmers had an outbreak of bovine TB.

Previous badger culls revealed less than 2% of the creatures were actually infected with the disease and some experts believe that cattle to cattle transmission may be primarily responsible for the outbreak.
