Does Lisa of The Simpsons Have An Eco-Sin As Well?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 29th, 2008 in Actresses, Environment-Eco-Green, Pop Culture.

The Simpsons 400th Episode Block Party - Arrivals

Lisa Simpson is one of TV’s most famous vegetarian cartoon characters (along with Apu, Kwik-E-Mart owner on the same show).

It’s no secret she loves animals and won’t eat them and she’s also doing her best to be eco-friendly, encouraging her family to do so as well. Both Maggie and her grandpa use “disposable diapers.”

National Geographic took time to interview her and her views on the environment. Although she likes animals, she may have an eco-sin and harbor ill will towards one type of creature:

What is your favorite (or least favorite) endangered animal?
I love all creatures, great and small… but if one had to go, I’d say mosquitoes. I mean, they can really ruin an Earth Day. Oh, now I feel so guilty.

Oh, well. I guess no one is perfect. Be sure to read the rest of the funny interview. Hope Apu gets his spotlight soon. He’s long overdue.

Dilbert’s Scott Adams Asks If Cow Sightings Make You Salivate

Scott Adams is the creator of the popular Dilbert cartoon series that has launched a thousand laughs about the office, management, and the regular 9-5 grind most of us partake in.

Adams is a vegetarian and also has a blog, where, like cartoonist Dan Piraro, he sometimes like to discuss his beliefs about the lifestyle.

In one of his posts, he said that in order for humans to be natural meat eaters, two things must take place:

1. Eating lots of meat wouldn’t increase your health risks.
2. Seeing a cow would make you salivate if you were hungry

He then goes on to argue that if eating meat is that natural, meat eaters shouldn’t have to barbecue things up or shape them into steaks and so forth. Obviously he’s gotten lots of comments about the argument, but we can’t help but give him credit for such a brillant and hillarious way to argue against meat eating. The next time your friend chomps into a hamburger, ask him if sinking his teeth into live cattle rump would produce the same experience!

Don’t forget to check out Scott’s blog from time to time!

All We Are Saying Is Give Peas A Chance

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 in Actors, Models, Pop Culture.

If sexiness sells, then pea farmers should be millionaires soon. Corey Feldman, star of The Two Coreys, and his model wife, Susie Feldman, are starring in a new PETA ad, “Give Peas A Chance.”

The ad mimics the image created by John Lennon and Yoko Ono created years ago, with “Give Peace A Chance,” being the slogan.

“Susie and I choose the vegetarian way of life because for us, there really is no other choice. We must evolve as a race and as a planet, and evolution includes learning and changing from our mistakes. We will never truly grow until we as a whole come to the realization that all beings on this earth should be treated with love and respect.”

The ad will start running July 18th.

Longtime vegan and animal rights activist Moby created a video mocking factory farming and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The chicken escapes the slaughter pen and hunts down Colonel Sanders for revenge. When he finally catches him…well…let’s say the chicken is a “calf” man, versus thighs or breasts.
