Leona Lewis Taking Beans And Tea On Tour

ELLE Style Awards 2010 - Arrivals

Leona Lewis is about to embark on her first ever headline tour and although she’s a little worried about getting homesick, she’s already packing her bags with her favorite veggie comfort foods.

“The worst thing is missing home. Like anyone who has to travel for their work, you do get a bit homesick sometimes. So I travel with my PG Tips tea and my baked beans.”

By eating low fat, high fiber and high protein plant foods like beans, Leona doesn’t have to worry much about looking good for her audience.

She told new! magazine, “I think every woman feels under pressure to look a certain way, and women do it to other women – which seems so bizarre. I want to look good, but being healthy is my main thing. I want to promote being healthy in your own body shape.”

Will Jessica Simpson Give Up Bacon?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 22nd, 2010 in Animal Issues, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Jessica Simpson joins her family at BOA steakhouse to celebrate her father Joe's birthday

Months after losing her best four legged Maltipoo friend Daisy, Jessica Simpson is thinking of adopting another animal.

Simpson Tweeted that she’d like to own a pig.

“I’m thinking about getting a pet pig. Does this mean I’ll have to give up pork?”

Sounds like a fairly innocent statement.

Simpson’s love for her new pet might cause her to rethink eating many animals, including pigs.

But PETA isn’t satisfied and issued a statement to US magazine:

“Pigs, who are smarter than dogs and every bit as sensitive to pain and stress, don’t belong in Jessica’s stomach or carted around as her latest.”

Simpson’s pet move could place her in the ranks of another celebrity scorned by the animal rights group for her treatment of animals–Paris Hilton.

The hotel heiress bought “Princess Piglet” last fall.

If Simpson cuts bacon, ham and Spam from her diet, she may discover that meaty taste doesn’t have to involve saturated fat or slaughter.

Some girls are still eating meat, but real girls know when it’s time to at least go flexitarian.

Leona Lewis Not Shy About Fur And Animal Rights

Leona Lewis attends the Brit Awards

Leona Lewis looks as sweet as agave syrup, but don’t let that fool you into thinking she can easily be pushed around, especially when it comes to her beliefs.

She told Smooth Radio, “That’s a big misconception. I think that a lot of people are like ‘she’s shy, she’s very timid’. Once people get to know me they know that that’s actually not true. I am very opinionated. I stand up for what I believe.”

Like not believing in selling herself out for fur, as she explained to Smooth Radio about her decision to turn down a opening a sale for a department store that sold fur.

“Yeah they did offer me money to open the sale but I said no because they stock fur. They’re one of the few places that still do it. I just think it’s so backwards, it’s very evil and cruel. I definitely stand up for what I believe in when it comes to animal rights.”

Her most recent act of activism was getting the officials at the BRIT awards to change the menu.

Keep it up, Leona!

Amy Winehouse Cats Go To Feline Homeless Shelter

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Female Singers.

Amy Winehouse is escorted down the street after leaving the birthday party of Dionne Bromfield, Amy's Goddaughter, at the Shoreditch House

Not even 30 years old and she’s already a crazy cat lady.

Amy Winehouse has opened her home to several cats over the past months.

Now that she’s leaving her home in London, she’s decided to dump the kitties at the local shelter.

“Amy was pretty upset about it because she loved them dearly, but she had to give them up,” a source told The Sun. “They were climbing all over the place, breeding and generally getting out of control.”

But isn’t “breeding,” and “out of control” usually what takes place at the Winehouse residence?

Thumbs up for Amy making the decision to invite animals into her life.

Thumbs down for not realizing the amount of time required to care for one, let alone multiple cats.

Thumbs up for taking the animals to the shelter instead of letting them run loose.

Thumbs…oh, never mind. Too much Amy Winehouse analyzing and you’ll have yourself in rehab.

Hopefully, Amy at least got the animals spayed or neutered and they all will find loving homes.

Cause there’s just not enough room for all of them in that beehive.

Carrie Underwood Celebrity Impact On Animal Charities

Super Bowl XLIV Pregame Show

When it comes to giving back, time is good, but dollars may even be better!

The Daily Beast profiled several celebrities who, through lending their name and face to campaigns and even personal donations, have contributed to their favorite charities.

Vegetarian Carrie Underwood is a featured giver for her donations to the Humane Society, which The Daily Beast estimated to have an annual impact of $236,021.

“The country-music star recently gave $200,000 to the Humane Society, taken from the sales of her recording of the Mötley Crüe song, “Home Sweet Home.” May no good deed go unpunished: Underwood’s ties to the animal-protection group angered hunters. “It is a radical organization that seeks to end hunting and other responsible uses of animals in America,” griped one leading sportsman. After Katrina, Underwood, 26, recorded a television spot for the Humane Society, detailing the plight of pets hurt by the hurricane.”

Of course, you don’t have to be a celebrity to have an impact.

Do you plan to donate your time to an animal organization in your town?
