IveyCake cupcake bakery in Tennessee has been given a popularity boost after Carrie Underwood chose the bakery to cater cupcakes for her recent wedding. But Underwood isn’t the first celebrity to take interest in the sweets 33 year old Ivey Childers worked for 2 years to perfect.

According to The Tennessean, Paramore’s leading lady Hayley Williams has requested that Childers make a vegan cupcake…or two considering how much she enjoys the regular varieties.

PETA is using the summer 2010 Vans Warped Tour to launch the campaign, “Elephants Never Forget,” meant to raise awareness of abuse circus animals endure.

After texting “NEVER” to 73822 (Peta2), cell phone users will be prompted to visit the PETA tent at the Warp Tour during one of its 43 dates from June 25-August 15. They will also be subscribed to a mobile list for the youth and teen division of Peta, Peta2.

The campaign is part of PETA’s ongoing efforts to educate the public about the conditions circus animals endure, with Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey being the biggest circus company as the target of the animal rights organization.

The digital campaign is made possible by Waterfall Mobile, the same company behind the campaign for the Oscar winning documentary, The Cove.

Two years ago Chrissie Hynde met JP Jones at an art party in London. Jones suggested the two collaborate in songwriting together which led Hynde to do something she hasn’t done in decades–form a brand new band, Chrissie, JP Jones & the Fairground Boys.

Now the pair is embarking on another collaboration. They plan to launch a vegan clothing line in the fall, according to Spin Magazine.

No other details were revealed in the interview, but let’s hope that between the two of them, creative, ethical and possibly even professional attire for both sexes will be available to those with the highest clothing standards.

A performance of Chrissie and JP singing “If You Let Me,” can be viewed above.

06 April 2010 - New York, NY - Joan Jett. 8th annual 'Dressed To Kilt' Charity Fashion Show presented by Glenfiddich at M2 Ultra Lounge New York City. Photo Credit: Paul Zimmerman/AdMedia

Joan Jett opened the contents of her grocery shopping cart to Dr. John Briffa in The Guardian’s regular feature of “What’s In Your Basket?”

Being vegetarian, Jett’s food didn’t bring too much criticism from Briffa, even the Olive Oil who’s virginity is doubtful. More on that later.

“Versatile and tasty oil is very rich in so-called ‘monounsaturated’ fat that is believed to have benefits for the heart and cardiovascular system generally. Olive oil also contains ‘phenolic’ compounds, that protect the body against freed radical damage, and have been linked with a reduced risk of some forms of cancer including breast cancer.”

Here’s hoping Jett has genuine “extra virgin olive oil,” as a new study indicates as many as 2/3 of the olive oils on the shelves claiming to be EVOO, were found to be a mix of cheaper oils like canola and nut, as reported in an LA Times article called Lab Tests Cast Doubt On Oil’s Virginity.

If anyone had doubts that a vegan Italian restaurant can work in the midwest, Chrissie Hynde proved them wrong. The singer owns The Vegiterranean in her hometown of Akron, Ohio, where the Parmesean on the menu is “Rawmesan”–a completely animal free topping, not to mention Gardein faux meat for the chicken, meatballs and other proteins.

Chrissie shared one of her favorite vegan pastas, linguine with portobello mushroom ragu with wholewheat pasta, vegan Parmesan, onions, tomatoes and red wine.

“I add rosemary, but oregano or thyme would also work,” says Chrissie of the substitution.

Photo by: RE/Westcom/Starmaxinc.com 2010 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED 2/27/10 Zooey Deschanel, American Society of Cinematographers 24th Annual Outstanding Achievement Awards, Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel, (Century City, CA.)

Zooey Deschanel has already revealed her multiple food allergies made attempting to be vegetarian and vegan a nightmare.

Soy, wheat, dairy and eggs are all no-nos. At the end of the day that leaves little left in terms of vegetable protein (rice, legumes) so Zooey gave in and welcomed meat into her life.

“I gave it a good try, but sometimes you just need a little something, a little meat,” she said.

Hopefully, this sometimes is very rare and not the norm, but is this a valid excuse?

Should Zooey sacrifice taste and seek boredom eating quinoa five times a day, every day, if it means adhering to the principles of being vegetarian? Or is she a case of someone, much like some have compared natives of an island who fish or hunt, who has little choice and control over her food?

All she wants to do…is save some animals.

Sheryl Crow is putting her fame behind the Humane Society of the United States to encourage people to adopt animals, donate money and help fight animal cruelty.

For the next few weeks, when you donate to the Humane Society, you may download a free copy of Crow’s new song, “Our Love Is Fading,” from her latest album, 100 Miles From Memphis, due out July 20.

“As a Humane Hero, you’ll stand with The Humane Society of the United States every month as they shut down puppy mills, save animals from natural and man-made emergencies, end the barbaric Canadian seal hunt, stop dogfighting and other forms of animal cruelty, and so much more,” Crows says on the HSUS site.

A video of the HSUS rescuing dogs can be viewed on the donation site, which contains another single from 100 Miles from Memphis, “Summer Day,” playing in the background.
