“After reading “Potatoes Not Prozac” by Kathleen Des Maisons, I knew I was a sugar addict. I started to eat healthier forms of protein such as lentils, quinoa, beans and nuts, and switched from white breads and rice to whole grain breads and brown rice. I added leafy greens and fruit to my daily meals and gave up fast food and the tons of sugar, caffeine and white refined foods that were making up the bulk of my meals.”

Kim Barnouin, vegan co-author of Skinny Bitch books and her own cookbook, Skinny Bitch: Ultimate Everyday Cookbook, to Ecostiletto on the journey that led her to eat healthier, which included learning to control her mad sugar cravings.

Potatoes Not Prozac by Dr. Kathleen DesMaisons takes sugar dependency in a step-by-step manner like drug addiction and offers diet advice to manage it. Curry Tofu Egg-Less Salad

The staples of a vegan egg salad are easy to get down. Tofu, some vegan mayonnaise and a spice for that yellow coloring eggs give, like turmeric or curry.

Kim Barnouin, who prefers Nasoya vegan mayonnaise, chose to put curry in this vegan egg salad recipe she created that’s found in her new cookbook, “Skinny Bitch: Ultimate Everyday Cookbook.” Curry, she notes on her blog, is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. This has been shown in both research and anecdotally. PETA says two books, “The Art Of Cockfighting—A Handbook for Beginners and Old Timers” and “Dogs of Velvet and Steel,” should not be available because they encourage people to participate in the activities, which are illegal.

Dennis Kucinich Writing Vegan Diet Book

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 8th, 2010 in Books, Food & Drink, Politicians.

When some politicians write books, they discuss the scandals, the life on Capitol Hill and their next career move.

Representative Dennis Kucinich would like to tell you about his diet.

From the Bloomberg Businessweek article on vegan powerhouses, it’s reported that the Ohio congressman is working on a book about his vegan lifestyle, tentatively titled, “The Cleveland Diet.”

Kucinich is such a good political talker, he was able to persuade Representative Robert A. Brady (D-Pa.), the head of the Committee on House Administration, to put vegan options on the menu at the cafeteria during Congress’ sessions.

Here’s hoping he wins plenty of votes for the diet when the book is released.
