“You know, a lot of people talk about, “we should do this” or “we should do that”. Well, we actually follow those footsteps by making the world’s most biodegradable album using all recyclable materials, printing with soy ink, using a corn plastic disc tray… and then we took it a step further by doing green “off the grid” performances where we’re rerouting the standard power sources with biodiesel generators and using alternative energy. On the animal front side of it, I’ve done a lot of work with organizations like PETA, Farm Sanctuary, Last Chance for Animals, and the Humane Society. I’ve actually gone as far as being on the Senate floor in Boston to try and help pass laws with those organizations.”

Ed Begley Jr. has an interview with Low Density Lifestyle that discusses his upcoming book, his motivations for going vegetarian and what he thinks about Meatless Monday initiatives.

Highlights from the two part discussion:

M.W.: The United Nations issued a report a few years back stating that meat consumption did more to affect climate change than all cars, trucks and planes combined. This lead Paul McCartney to start the Meat Free Monday campaign, urging people to not eat meat one day a week. Do you think not eating meat one day a week is enough to help halt global warming?
E.B.: No, but it’s a step in the right direction. I always encourage people to expand their green diet. It’s a good choice for the environment and for your health.

An Evening with 'Parks and Recreation'

Aziz Ansari, star of the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation will be hosting this year’s MTV Movie Awards. From an interview with the New York Times, it sounds as if Ansari might be a vegan.

“Mr. Ansari made no apologies to the crowd at the theater, where the $5 tickets were cheaper and the jokes more meandering than they would be at those future gigs. As he had said that afternoon over lunch at a vegan restaurant in the Silver Lake neighborhood, “I even tell the audience, ‘You’re getting an inferior version of the joke so, I can work on it myself.”

Here’s a video from the Funny or Die series with Sarah Silverman, P. Diddy and other celebrities discussing Aziz’s life and the “struggles” he’s had to endure before rising to stardom to host the MTV Movie Awards.

Ricky Gervais Does Letterman

Ricky Gervais has teamed up with the World Society for the Protection of Animals to record a PSA on the approaching vote that may ban bullfighting in certain parts of Spain.

Gervais has a little Q & A session with WSPA, where he reveals that not even Spain is into letting bulls bleed to death for entertainment. So why the heck is this still going on?

“Anyway, it’s not even that popular anymore – a survey a couple of years ago showed that 72 per cent of Spaniards have no interest in it,” Gervais told WSPA. “In Barcelona, they’ve had to cut the number of bullfights they have because audiences are getting smaller. They don’t even show it on TVE, the main public TV station in Spain! Even in Latin America it’s in decline – there’s a city in Ecuador that has publicly declared itself anti-bullfighting.”
