Cynics may claim Oprah Winfrey is doing damage control for her free Kentucky Fried Chicken for everyone stunt by featuring puppies for Chicago’s PAWS shelter on the June cover of her magazine.

But who cares? It gets the word out on adopting homeless four legged friends, doesn’t promote a kennel or breeder, and it’s history. That’s right, history, as this issue is one of the few that features another creature other than Oprah.

“That’s Sadie on O’s June cover, hugging my right shoulder, making her bid for a new life with me,” Oprah writes on Oprah.com. “Right before we shot the photo—at PAWS Chicago, the city’s largest no-kill humane shelter—she had licked my ear and whispered, “Please take me with you.””

Oprah is no stranger to doggie love, as she’s featured undercover footage of puppy mills on her show, urging viewers to adopt instead. She even dedicated an episode to her deceased cocker spaniel.

Oprah Winfrey Demands Obama Share Person Of The Year Love

Oprah Winfrey Joins Obama On Campaign Trail

Some have accused Oprah Winfrey of being an attention fiend.

And she does push herself in the spotlight frequently, from her support to certain political candidates to letting everyone know what book she’s cuddling up with instead of Stedman for the week. She has her face on the cover of every one of her magazines, for goodness sake.

But attention fiends can be good, especially if they’re garnishing it for the right reasons. And that’s exactly why the U.S. division of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has chosen her as Person of the Year 2008.

She’s used her power to draw attention to a variety of animal abuse. After following a plea on a billboard in Chicago to do a show on puppy mills, she aired an episode that featured undercover footage of horrible conditions at one located in Pennsylvania. Her audience also got to see the torture that chickens, pigs, and veal calves endure in conventional factory farms.

Earlier this year in April, she dedicated an episode of her show to her late cocker spaniel.

Let’s not forget, she went vegan for 21 days and told the world about it!

Hats off to Oprah. Good thing Time Magazine’s Person of The Year,  Barack Obama, is a slender man. He definitely needs to make room for some other great people in the spotlight.

Oprah’s 40 Pound Solution: Come Back Over To The Vegan Side!

17th Annual Women In Entertainment Power 100 Breakfast - Arrivals

Oprah has been in the news lately, talking about her weight gain of 40 pounds, saying she’s “embarrassed,” by the situation and “mad at herself.”

In her January issue of “O”, the magazine in which she always appears on the cover, she writes, “I’m mad at myself.  I didn’t just fall off the wagon. I let the wagon fall on me.”

Sounds like she could use the help of some vegan Skinny Bitches!

Someone needs to remind O that a vegan and vegetarian diet is not only healthier, but can help you shed bad fat all while reducing your chances of developing obesity related diseases like diabetes.

She been here before. Last spring, on the advice of author Kathy Freston, Oprah, went vegan for 21 days as part of a detox and cleanse routine.

So come on, O! Take the sunglasses off and stop hiding in shame. Come back over to the veg side!

Not only would Oprah say see ya to the extra 40, but she could finally end years of yo-yo dieting as being vegetarian and vegan is about a lifestyle-not a prescribed formula for eating.

Not to mention she could finally grant Alicia Silverstone her wish and do a naked ad promoting vegetarianism.
