Mya Women's Running

A vegetarian diet hasn’t affected Mya‘s fitness routine at all.

The singer isĀ on the cover of the August 2014 issue of Women’s Running.

In 2010, the former Dancing with the Stars competitor made a New Year’s resolution to go vegetarian at least six months a year.

She successfully completed that goal and has spent the last year following the diet full time.

Us Weekly Hot Hollywood Event - Arrivals

Mya went vegetarian to shape up for her Dancing With the Stars role this past season and lost 11 pounds while doing so.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t find the time to plan her meals to get enough protein and ended up going back to meat.

“My new year’s resolution was to be a vegetarian for six months out of this year,” said Mya, according to Us Magazine. “I did three months and stopped and then I’m almost done with my second three months commitment.”

Will Mya make the same promise to herself this year?

Will she go for the home run and do it for 365 days in 2010?

Mya heads to STK for dinner and then to Coco de Ville to perform her new single

Singer Mya lost 11 pounds after going vegetarian to slim down for Dancing With The Stars.

She’s one of the four celebrities still left on Dancing, but she’s abandoned the practices that got her so healthy and up to par for the competition.

“I am eating more protein now – I used to be a vegetarian!” she told OK! magazine.

Mya claims she’s craving carbohydrates and proteins–and that her meat-free diet was leaving her hanging.

“So I’m eating lots of chicken and beef. I splurge on carbs like mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, rice and gravy, bagels – the list goes on!”

This may make us not vote for Lady Marmalade.

You want carbs, Mya?

We’ve got your carbs!

Complex ones like whole grain pasta, oatmeal, bagels, and lentils.

And if you’re missing your chicken and beef, Chef Tal Ronnen would love to introduce you to the wonderful world of Gardein faux meats he uses so frequently in his cookbook, The Conscious Cook.

Mya may still dance like a 9, but we’re giving her diet performance a 6 today.

Do you already have your favorite contestant in mind?

There are so many favorites to choose from, like Mya, who went vegetarian to get in shape and lost 11 pounds for the competition.

There’s also Kelly Osbourne, who, although rumored to be a flip flop vegetarian, attended the launch of Paul McCartney‘s Meat-Free Monday campaign to get people to reduce their meat intake.

Then there’s Joanna Krupa, who posed in this popular anti-fur ad.

Last year, a spoof PETA ad was recorded by the DWTS contestants, where some “facts” about the cruelties of the dancing industry were revealed.

Dancing with the Stars TV show selects singer, Mya as a new cast member for Season 9

Singer Mya went vegetarian to get in shape for her Dancing With the Stars role and lost 11 pounds, according to US Weekly.

“You have to get your rest, eat properly, rest, focus…it’s challenging,” Mya said, who cited becoming vegetarian as a way to “lighten up” to better shake her hips during the salsa.

“My weight may change after I stuff my face!” she jokes. “My weakness is the pasta and the rice!”

Wouldn’t it be great if the Grammy award winning R & B singer kept to her veg diet even after Dancing with the Stars is over?

She could join the Dancing veg alum club with Cloris Leachman.

Stuffing your face with pasta and rice are completely within our bylaws, Mya!
