**RESTRICTIONS APPLY** Shakira cheers on Spains Rafael Nadal at the Sony Ericsson Open

Shakira has revealed that she once tried being vegetarian after befriending some chickens she met on a farm.

It worked out for those particular chickens who didn’t get eaten. But not so much for their relatives and future descendants.

“I was living in Spain on a farm, and someone gave me four chickens,” said the Hips Don’t Lie singer.

“I named them and they became very close to me. And then I couldn’t eat them. I was like, ‘OK, if I cannot eat these chickens because they actually have names and they are my friends, I am not going to be able to eat any chicken again.’ So I became a vegetarian.”

“I lasted for one month. I tried, I really tried. Yeah, I gave it a go.”

“I didn’t last as a vegetarian – but I did not eat those chickens. I promise those chickens survived.”

Sounds like Shakira should get as excited about soy chicken as Lisa Loeb does.

The Pretenders Perform In Madrid

The Vegiterranean, a vegan restaurant created and owned by The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, isn’t exactly located in the hub of vegetarianism.

But that doesn’t stop her from bringing business to her hometown of Akron, Ohio, as she says mostly meat eaters dine there.

“Ninety per cent of the people who go there are meat eaters,” Hynde said. “They just think the food’s great and there’s not a bean sprout in sight.”

Not that Chrissie isn’t into anything with the word “bean” attached to it.

“I could eat beans on toast every day for the rest of my life, no complaints at all. I’m a buffet kind of person. I’d much rather go in for a buffet, load up my plate, sit down, eat and split, or have a piece of pizza on a doorstep or something. I can’t stand fuss.”

She’s not a party person either, stating she never gets invited because “they don’t invite vegetarians.”

But that may be for the best, as she gets to dart silly questions like, “Do you eat fish?”

“I’ve been having that same conversation for 40 years!” she said.

Elle Style Awards 2009

English recording artist and songwriter VV Brown recently became vegetarian after seeing a cow killed and stripped of its guts while in Africa.

But she’s thinking of taking it a step further and leaning towards veganism, because, well, who wants to deal with a chick during that “time of the month?”

“I’m thinking of giving up eggs because if you think about it, they are just chicken’s periods,” she told the UK Guardian.

Come again?

Oh, sure, VV must be talking about the fact that eggs are unfertilized products of a chicken’s reproductive cycle, which some have likened to the same process that occurs when an egg is unfertilized in human females.

Yeah, if you think about it…VV has the right idea.

She’s got a new album coming out, Traveling Like The Light. Check out her Myspace for some music samples.
