Leona Lewis has commissioned designer Antonio Berardi to design her costumes for her recent tour.

According to Contact Music, the vegetarian singer spent $262,500 (£175,000) of her own money to ensure the clothing was as ethical as possible.

A source told Britain’s The Sun, “Leona has been very forceful with Antonio. She has insisted the outfits are as ethically sound as they can possibly be. She’s paid for all the clothes out of her own pocket, so she has been quite hands-on in terms of design.”

It’s easier than ever to find designers who specialize in ethical clothing, and you probably won’t have to spend as much as Leona on brands such as those featured in the 5 Affordable Eco Designers That Celebrities Love.

The Humane Society has provided a list of major retailers and their positions on selling fur, such as if fur is not sold or if there are plans to phase furs out by a certain year.

The HSUS list contains information by company, it’s policy on fur, method of verifying the fur status and brands sold under the company affected.

Australian singer Gabriella Cilmi has expressed concerns for the vegetarian menu Leona Lewis has put on her tour that she’ll be supporting.

Cilmi told Digital Spy:

“All I know so far is that the food’s going to be vegan, and I’m not sure how I’m going to cope with that. I’m not a huge meat-eater, but I need it sometimes for energy! I’m really excited about it actually, because they’re going to be the biggest venues I’ve done so far in the UK.”

Before Gabriella sticks her tongue out at veggie food, she should do her research in between those awesome Donna Summer moves she’s practicing for the stage.

Plant based protein can provide her with just as much, if even more energy as the chicken sandwich she’s used to munching on.

A McDonald’s hamburger, for example, contains 12 grams of protein, while a serving of seitan contains almost twice as much–22 grams!

Not to mention less than 2 grams of fat versus the 9 found in a burger, plus no cholesterol to keep Gabriella fitting into those sexy outfits that make you actually want to show up early for the opening act.

ELLE Style Awards 2010 - Arrivals

Leona Lewis is about to embark on her first ever headline tour and although she’s a little worried about getting homesick, she’s already packing her bags with her favorite veggie comfort foods.

“The worst thing is missing home. Like anyone who has to travel for their work, you do get a bit homesick sometimes. So I travel with my PG Tips tea and my baked beans.”

By eating low fat, high fiber and high protein plant foods like beans, Leona doesn’t have to worry much about looking good for her audience.

She told new! magazine, “I think every woman feels under pressure to look a certain way, and women do it to other women – which seems so bizarre. I want to look good, but being healthy is my main thing. I want to promote being healthy in your own body shape.”

Leona Lewis On Vegetarian Catering, Horses

Leona Lewis spoke to the UK Sun where she revealed she takes her job seriously–right down to the food served at work.

“I only have vegetarian catering,” Leona said. “Everyone who works with me knows that now.

“I don’t have any meat at photoshoots and video shoots. It’ll be the same on the tour.”

Leona loves horses and although she’ll be using horse themes for her upcoming tour, she’s smart enough to know real animals don’t belong on the stage.

“Yes, we will be using some horse themes – but no real horses. That would be strange and possibly a bit dangerous!

And Leona is totally into rent-a-horse, as long as it’s done ethically.

“I ride whenever I can, which is about once a week. Luckily, you can lease horses a bit like cars.

“But I am very careful to make sure that it is not cruel in any way. I had an incident when I got hurt by a horse a few months ago. But that was my fault, not the horse’s.”
