Heather Mills Named Honorary Chair Of Hunts Point Alliance For Children

Hope your New Year’s party plans are coming along well and your crib is stocked full of veggie goodies for the big celebration. Every one’s doing a “best of” list for 2008, so it makes sense for us to bring you a few of our favorites, which were some of the most heavily trafficked posts this year. Drum roll please…

Honorable Mention: 111 Year Old Woman Attributed Long Life To Vegetarianism-Aida May was not a celebrity, per se, but she should be a role model to anyone who wants to unlock the key to a long, healthy life!

#5: Kellie Pickler Turned Vegetarian-With the help of Idol alum Carrie Underwood and PETA queen Pamela Anderson, Miss Pickler is now a part of the Idol veg club. Which is a good thing since Ruben Studdard has fallen off the wagon.

#4: Rachael Ray BOB: Rachael Ray’s newest cookbook, Big Orange Book, has an entire chapter devoted towards vegetarian food. She did this after listening to her fans on the road that demanded more of these recipes.

#3: Anne Hathaway Became A Quitter: After an on again/off again relationship with the veg life, soon after Anne dumped her con ex boyfriend, she picked up tofu again.

#2: Pamela Anderson Tries Vegan KFC: Pammie visited a KFC in her home country of Canada, which now serves a vegan faux chicken patty. It won’t make every one happy, but it is a significant step towards making vegan food available in mainstream restaurants.

#1: Heather Mills Donates A Million Dollars Worth Of Veggie Food To Charity: Because everyone deserves the opportunity to eat vegetarian food, regardless of socio-economic status. Heather did a wonderful deed by donating veggie burgers, veggie dogs, and all sorts of goodies-she even showed up at an event to grill some of it.

Vegetarian Carrie Underwood Respects Cattle Rancher Parents

The 42nd Annual CMA Awards - Press Room

American Idol winner and country music star Carrie Underwood has been a vegetarian since her teens and recently helped fellow Idol alum Kellie Pickler make the transition to the diet.

Carrie made the decision to stop eating meat while living with her parents, who ironically, are cattle ranchers. And although she wouldn’t dare eat anything they produce, it didn’t change her feelings for them.

“I respect what they do very much. That’s what put clothes on my back and paid for college,” she said in an interview with Tampa Bay Online. “But cows were like my dogs. I named them, I played with them, I bottle-fed them. When I realized why we had cows, I couldn’t think of anyone eating my friends. It scared me, and I quit eating meat.”

When she goes home to Oklahoma these days, it’s not exactly the vegan mecca, like L.A., so she’s forced to bring her own food.

“I can get a veggie sub at Subway, but that’s about it.”

People who grow up and take on different beliefs or lifestyles from their family deal with it in different ways. Some become extremely outspoken to the point where it damages relationships and some are able to separate the people from the act they do.

Are you a vegetarian in a family of people in the meat industry, such as cattle ranching or even a butcher shop? Has it affected your relationships with them in any way since you became vegetarian?

Did Pickler Interrupt Underwood’s Veggie Meal With Stork?

Carrie Underwood Unveils Her Wax Figure At Madame Tussauds

Carrie: No Kellie, you don’t want to eat it if it’s cooked in chicken broth. LOL!

Carrie Underwood may have found a man that’s just as good as animals this time.  She was spotted having dinner with Travis Stork, a former TV “Bachelor.”

Insiders gave lots of juicy details such as the dinner couple holding hands and showing affect and taking a break from lovin’ to sing Happy Birthday to a nearby party.

We have a strange suspicion that insiders failed to notice that Carrie got interrupted 10 times that night by newly vegetarian Kellie Pickler texting questions about rennet, soymilk, and natural flavorings.

Underwood had said before in an interview that if she had to choose between animals and men, she’d choose animals because she hasn’t found a good man yet, but lots of good animals.

Poor Stork. Doesn’t know the cats, dogs, and farm animals he may be up against.

Carrie ate a very veggie ravioli and beet salad, then finished off with an omelet. No news on what Stork ate.

Kellie: Thanx babe. Luv u so much:)

Kellie Pickler Vegetarian Thanks To The Power Of Blonds

The 43rd Annual Academy Of Country Music Awards - Arrivals

Kiss that meat goodbye, girlfriend!

We always like it when someone crosses over to our side. Country music star and American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler is the latest celebrity to become vegetarian. Even better, she’s talking about it.

In People Magazine, she credits both Pamela Anderson and Carrie Underwood for helping her convert. We call it the power of blonds.

Pickler first switched to being a veg for health reasons. Then she saw a video by Pamela Anderson on animal rights, which, much like the experience of Anthony Kiedis, convinced her there was no turning back.

“A lot of it has to do with knowing what happens to the animals and it really bothered me and so I will not eat meat,” she said.

So Pamela Anderson is the first blond. Then comes fellow Idol alumnus Carrie Underwood. When she made the decision, she began texting back and forth, asking Carrie all sorts of newbie questions, such as “Is fish considered a meat?” Underwood, being the ever supportive teacher didn’t know if Pickler could pull it off at first and was amazed that she stuck through it.

Being a small fish in a large pond, Pickler is careful not to get too preachy. There aren’t many vegetarians in country music, with Shania Twain being one of the few.

“Most country girls do like their meat!” she said.

Now one less country girl eats her meat.
