Black History Month And Black Vegetarian Leaders

February is Black History Month and a great time to not only celebrate civil rights, but highlight the dozens of black community leaders, celebrities and other famous persons who either follow or have followed a diet and promote animal rights as well.

The Reverend Al Sharpton, who once weighed over 300 pounds, found following a mostly vegetarian diet helped him lose over 100 pounds.

Chaka Khan was a guest on The Wendy Williams Show where the newly slimmer star just had to share the secret of her 60 pound weight loss.

When asked why she no longer ate meat, Khan replied, “I just don’t trust stuff.”

Not a bad idea.

After most people learn about the fat, links to disease and weird addictives that go into meat products, Ain’t Nobody goin’ trust that stuff.

“I felt like I need to heal my body, so I would just fast and eat no meat, no dairy. I’ve never been a fan of meat, dairy and sugar. And when I developed diabetes last year I said, ‘Oh OK, I’m not going to be here long. A change is coming.’ So I started getting my mindset, then I started the fasting.”

Chaka Khan has added another accomplishment to her long list that includes Grammy award-winning tunes.

Khan revealed she lost weight and helped curtail a few health problems by adopting a vegan diet.

“My weight loss had to occur, because I was diagnosed with Type-2 Diabetes and I also had high blood pressure,” Khan said. “And I’ve been on medication for that since last year until the beginning of this year.”
