Controversy Over Pro-Vegeterian Curriculum In Schools

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 1st, 2016 in Food & Drink.

Parents are outraged at a new curriculum designed to encourage children to eat more vegetarian foods.

A group called Veggie Kids of Tomorrow has created a book filled with nothing but images from some of the most popular campaigns from the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

The problem with this tutorial, as many might imagine, is that the images very much reflect PETA’s reputation of mixing scantily clad people with pro-vegetarian messages.

ABC Reveals Plans For “Vegan-ish” Series About Vegan Family Life

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 1st, 2015 in Film & TV, Food & Drink.

ABC has just announced a new evening show that will begin airing next fall.

The series, borrows its title from the network’s very popular Black-ish, but depicts the daily lives of a vegan family living in an ever-changing world that has redefined what it means to be vegan.

Vegan-ish, features a family that technically calls itself vegan, although several members don’t always fit the expected profile.

The mother and father went vegan years ago in the 70s when it was rare and hippyish. Their penchant for making and passing out pamphlets, holding vegan cookouts in the neighborhood and eco-friendly ideas are usually welcomed by the teenage children–with the exception of one suggestion to save water by having the family shower together.

Monopoly Cat

PETA has unveiled its first edition of an animal rights version of a very popular board game.

PETAopoly, a spin on the real estate themed Monopoly, is available for order both from the organization and through select online retailers.

Last year, the group championed Hasbro for putting a rescue cat as a new token.

It’s version of the game has several key themes, including:

  • Popular pets and farm animals as tokens, including a cat, dog, chicken, cow and pig.
  • A jail that puts players in small, cramped cages akin to those animals endure on factory farms. Players must pay extra money to overcome conditions and diseases animal develop (e.g. avoid getting de-beaked, finance their own antibiotics).
  • Get out of Jail Free cards that allow shelter pets to find permanent, loving homes.
  • Multiple properties available for purchase to start small-scale organic farming and/or other plant crops.

Awhile back, we told you about the human breast milk cheese created by a New York University graduate student.

Mirium Simun conducted taste tests of the different flavors of cheese sourced from milk of several women in the New York and Wisconsin area and results were overwhelmingly positive.

Now, the cheese has been packaged and is ready for distribution and we’d like to spread the word on getting this cruelty-free cheese into the fridges of everyone by offering not one, not two, but 5 FREE PACKAGES of one breast milk cheese that most vegans consider vegan-friendly.

Dear Abby Carnivore Needs Humane Bug Solution For Wife

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 1st, 2010 in Animal Issues, Humor, Merchandise, Offbeat.

Abigail Van Buren

When one spouse turns vegetarian, life may be a little difficult for the remaining carnivorous one.

Who will cook the local insects, for example.

In Dear Abby‘s April Fool’s edition, a man from Arkansas complains about his vegetarian wife, who gained weight and refuses to kill the roaches around the house.

What’s Abby’s advice?

“I’ll let you know if I hear from anyone who wants to weigh in on your problem. But in the meantime, you’ll have to cook your own steaks and kill your own insects.”

Arkansas Carnivore should give the No Kill Bugbuster to his wife for her birthday or their next anniversary.

Vegetarian Star recommends giving it sooner as a surprise, “Just because I love you,” gift before the bugs multiply any more.

The wife can suck up the bugs and transplant them elsewhere without having to compromise on her no kill philosophy.
