In the world of vegetarian/vegan moms and their babies, we almost missed one more veg mom bringing a child into the world in 2011.

Martha Stewart‘s vegetarian daughter, Alexis Stewart, recently welcomed a baby via a surrogate.

Alexis, who recorded a PSA urging people to adopt turkeys and not eat them, and her mother are probably looking forward to all the joys a new baby and grandbaby bring. Except the new title of “grandma.”

A blogger at Vegansaurus was lucky enough to snag tickets to Martha Stewart‘s vegan episode.

Martha hosted Twitter’s Biz Stone, Veganist author Kathy Freston and Farm Sanctuary’s president and co-founder Gene Baur for food demonstrations, animal farm discusses and all things vegan.

When asked if she was ready to make the switch to veganism, Martha said she was on her way there, and told a story about how traumatized she was from a beef purchase that left her, not stained for life, but definitely tarnished.

Biz Stone And Martha Stewart Make Seitan Bourguignon

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 in Film & TV, Food & Drink.

Biz Stone‘s segment on The Martha Stewart Show has been posted to Gawker.

“One of the things we like to do is we like to take real comfort food [and make it vegan]. And this particular food is like a stew that’s really great during a rainy day,” Biz said.

Biz revealed that when his wife Livia is cooking at home, he reads books to her while she’s at the stovetop.

“We have a bunch of classic books. We just finished Treasure Island. We have a lot of the Sherlock Holmes stories…That’s kind of like, my role in the kitchen.”

Using Westsoy brand of seitan, Biz and Martha walk through the steps of cooking seitan bourguignon. While Martha is stirring the seitan, Biz jokes, “I guess I should be reading to you.”

But Alexis is an adult now, and Martha’s still giving veg some genuine attention. She recently requested vegans to sit in the audience for an upcoming show about veganism. And she’s included at least one vegan recipe in her new cookbook, Martha Stewart’s Pies & Tarts.
