Food Minister Russell Brand Can Slim Britain’s Fat Transylvanians

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, November 13th, 2008 in Actors, Radio Hosts.

What can Russell Brand do for Britain? Reduce obesity rates? Encourage more physical activity? Have naked ladies wearing only lettuce cups go door to door reminding you to eat your veggies?

These are just a few of some possible campaign pointers he should mention in case he decides to run for Food Minister.

Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver has expressed concerns over Britain’s rising health problems and says the country is in need of a Food Minister to help stop and reduce what he calls the “obesity horror show.”

But this horror show doesn’t involve Rocky coming to life. And ooh, girlfriend, those Transylvanians have gotten fa-aat!

Peta UK has jumped on the chance to remind everyone that a vegetarian diet can help you lose weight and is better for the planet and has created its own ballad for vegetarian celebrities that would be perfect for the Food Minister position, including shock jock Brand.

Other celebs on the list include Paul McCartney, Joanna Lumley, Morrissey, Russell Brand, Benjamin Zephaniah, Leona Lewis, Jenny Seagrove, Alexa Chung, Jodie Marsh, Martin Shaw, and Thom Yorke.

Whether you live in the UK or not, you can participate in the decision by going to Fish and Chips and leaving a comment as to who you think should take the helm.

The “obesity horror show” can change. Let’s do the time warp again…but with a vegan Frank. N. Furter.

Onion Breath Alexis Stewart Cooks Better Than Mom Martha

Martha Stewart Returns to Work At Omnimedia

Martha Stewart has just admitted she sucks. Actually, she just admitted that she’s not the greatest cook in the world. Her daughter, Alexis, is.

“My daughter is a better cook than I am. And she’s the first to admit it! She’s limited somewhat in what she cooks because she is a vegetarian. But she’s a fantastic baker.”

While limited may be a matter of opinion, after visiting her Whatever Alexis blog, we definitely would like to taste what Alexis is cooking up.

She shares some of her recipe and cooking experiences there regularly, and for November,  she’s got cinnamon rolls and a vegan recipe featuring kidney beans, thyme, garlic, and onion.

After confessing she ate most of the onions and garlic from the bean dish first, Alexis is sorry. (Or maybe sorry for those who had a conversation with her afterward.)

We’re sure mom Martha is smug knowing she has the better breath.

Howard Stern And Beth Ostrosky Wedding

Relax and leave the food voyeurism to us. Thanks to NYMag, we were able to tell you what millionaire blogger Peter Rojas ate for an entire week and the fact that he screwed up a tofu curry scramble with too much lime.

Once again, we bring you all the details of vegan celebrity food life. Robin Quivers, Howard Stern’s sidekick,  lost 70 pounds following a vegan diet. You should check out her before and after pictures–wow. She gave a sampling of her weekly munching to NYMag. Here are just a few bites:

Saturday, April 5:
Grilled vegetables, among other things.”Sometimes, I may be out to dinner and have a little pasta with vegetables or a risotto. I’ve gotten chefs to make me a risotto with olive oil instead of butter and cheese and then putting in some vegetables.”

Sunday, April 6:
Fruit smoothies with berries and coconut water. “I have a Magic Bullet [blender] in my office, and I put in these nutritional powders containing wheat grass and alfalfa in my juices.”

Monday, April 7:
“I try to stay away from white flour, but every once in a while I’ll indulge myself. I love soft pretzels — especially Aunt Annie’s.”

Tuesday, April 8:
“I had them make a vegetarian gordita without the sour cream and cheese.”

For a bigger bite of what Robin ate, you’ll have to go to NYMag and read for yourself.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 in Radio Hosts.

Radio Host Don Imus usually makes headlines for something less than pleasant, or at least that’s what it seems like in the past year or two. As we stated before, we will continue to focus on the positive things some bad boy (or bad girl) celebrity is doing.

On September 16th, 2008, The Imus Ranch Record will be released featuring artists such as Stevie Nicks, Patty Loveless, and Dwight Yoakam. Proceeds will benefit the ranch. The complete track list is as follows:

Howard Stern’s Sidekick, Robin Quivers, Goes Vegan And Loses 70 Pounds

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, July 20th, 2008 in Radio Hosts.

Howard Stern’s longtime radio sidekick, Robin Quivers, adopted a strict vegan diet and lost 70 pounds in the past year. She is sporting a new body as well as a new boyfriend, New Jersey comedian Jim Florentine, who is over a decade younger than she is.

In an recent interview she explained her decisions for doing so. “It was my health,” she said. “I was not the type of person who ate 50 Big Macs. I wasn’t having a great time being fat. I was eating what most people consider a relatively healthy diet and not doing well.”

Quivers got started on The Martha’s Vineyard Diet Detox and after her cleansing process was complete, she began eating vegan.

She often drinks juices for breakfast and dinners might include grilled vegetables, sometimes with a small amount of pasta or risotto made with olive oil, instead of butter. She cites her new way of eating as giving her more energy and gets irritated at criticism from the medical community or others that might think the diet is too extreme.

Although Domestic Diva Martha Stewart may be more famous, we’re more interested in what her vegetarian foodie daughter, Alexis, has to say and apparently others are too. She has a successful radio talk show on Sirius, called Whatever with Jennifer and Alexis.

Alexis has recently been in the news discussing her wishes to conceive a baby, but in the past she has been active with PETA and narrated the PETA Veggie Holiday Hotline. When callers called the 1-888-VEG-FOOD hotline, they would hear the following:

“Chances are, if you’re hosting the holiday feast this year, you’ll have at least one friend or family member who doesn’t eat meat. Whether for ethical or health reasons, millions of Americans have gone vegetarian, and it’s now easier than ever to keep veggie guests happy at holiday gatherings. To ensure your menu doesn’t ruffle anybody’s feathers, visit VegCooking.com for handy tips and tasty recipes. And for a free vegetarian starter kit, leave your name and address at the tone. Thanks, and happy holidays.”

According to the goveg website, Alexis has been veg since she was in high school and Mother Martha was always supportive. She’s not a big fan of fake meat, but prefers pastas, salads, and soup-carrot soup being her favorite.
