Glenn Phillips and Works Progress Administration

Works Progress Administration: (Back row L-R) Greg Leisz, Sean Watkins, Pete Thomas, Luke Bulla, Benmont Tench (Front row L-R) Glen Phillips, Sara Watkins

The Works Progress Administration is a folk band named after FDR’s New Deal agency, with singer Glen Phillips (Toad The Wet Sprocket) at the helm.

Phillips says one of his favorite things to do in LA is visit Inaka Natural Foods Restaurant.

“There is something about the coffee at King’s Road that makes me really happy. And Benmont took us to a great macrobiotic vegan quasi-Japanese place called Inaka. But my favorite thing to do in LA is just catch up with friends. And again, as far as favorite places go, it doesn’t get better than Largo!”

Looking up a link to Inaka, the restaurant is under Yelp.com‘s “Japanese” and “Seafood” categories.

Reviewers have made comments like:

“I highly recommend their chocolate tofu mousse.”

So we take it some of Inaka is vegan.

But it gets real comically confusing as another reviewer expressed content with seafood and “tofu on the side.”

“Don’t miss their salmon (ask for it pan-fried with their light/dee-lish teriyaki on the side, OR try their incredible salmon patty and ask for their tofu dressing on the side for it…YUM!!!)”

Tofu dressing sounds delicious. Salmon patty…that’s another story.

Jason Mraz Fish Taco Sins Revealed

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, October 4th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

Jason Mraz Performs On NBC's "Today"

So back when Jason Mraz called himself a vegan fishitarian, we wondered if Jason really did sneak some occasional fish or was attempting another one of his sarcastic remarks.

We feared the worst, and it’s true. According to sfgate.com, Jason remains vegan for most of the time, but gives in to flipper ever now and then.

Q: Do you ever give into temptation and microwave a convenience store bacon cheeseburger?

A: No, I never give in. Only when I’m home in San Diego. That’s when you might find me pulling in for a fish taco.

Ah, the disappointment!

Jason’s diet for the other 99% of the time is convenient as it saves him the hassle of prep time on the road.

“My food is mostly raw vegan. You don’t have to cook too much when you’re in that world. So I might steam some quinoa, and then everything else is just fresh produce. Otherwise you’re eating truck-stop food, which is no bueno.”

Jason Mraz and the fish taco. Russell Simmons and his occasional egg noodles. Are there any good 100% real vegan men standing?

Jason Mraz will play at the Farm Aid 2009 all day music and food festival in St. Louis, Missouri at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on Sunday October 4.

Farm Aid’s goal is to encourage and assist small, family farms and encourage consumers to purchase food that comes from these farms.

Farm Aid 2009 is being presented by Horizon Organic, sponsored by DIRECTV, Organic Valley Family of Farms, Silk, and EternaGreen.

Fitting that Mraz would be performing at such a benefit, as he has a small avocado farm of his own and was named MNN’s top Farmers Under 40.

Live Earth - New York - Show

But make sure you wash your hands before making it for him if you’ve sneezed recently.

Hunter Burgan, bassist for AFI known for his sarcastic, witty, and downright ridiculous comments on his blog or during interviews, shared with buzznet.com what he’d love to put on his sandwich.

Buzznet: If we gave you sourdough bread and you could put anything on your sandwich what would it be?

Hunter: It would be very thoughtful of you. Thanks! (I might melt some vegan cheese on it, or maybe marinara sauce if you didn’t give me vegan cheese.)

But Hunter’s quite a germaphobe, so never do something like cough and touch his sandwich. Or stab him.

“I hate it when people sneeze into their hands and then place them inside my mouth. I also hate being stabbed to death…that’s a pet peeve of mine.”

And to all ladies without eyes, sorry, you’ll have to find another man.

“The first thing I look for is eyes. If a girl doesn’t have eyes, it’s a no-go. (my apologies to all the girls reading this without eyes).”

Read more, find out when AFI plays near you and possibly determine if Hunter’s been eating too much moldy sourdough bread from his answers at buzznet.com.

Forrest Kline of hellogoodbye showed off his vegan exhibitionist side when he Tweeted a pic of a vegan pizza (though we think the nose and chin pictured isn’t Forrest).

“Epic vegan BBQ chicken pizza. Andy put ketchup on it. Ketchup & BBQ? Arch enemies.”

But oh, Forrest, how can ketchup and barbecue feud when, as any veg chef knows, one can easily be spiced up to create the other?

If you’re looking to salivate with inspiration, keep looking at the pic.

If you’re looking to make your own vegan barbecue chicken pizza, here’s a recipe idea.
