Second VegiTerranean For Chrissie Hynde

Chrissie Hynde is looking to expand her restaurant business and open a second VegiTerranean in Columbus, OH. In 2007, she opened the first in her hometown of Akron.

Although nothing is definite yet, calls to the restaurant confirm a working plan to expand.

Earlier this month, The VegiTerranean put 2 of its vegan burgers on display at the National Hamburger Festival.

The original plan was to open the Columbus restaurant by this summer, but we all know good things take time.

Hynde’s partner Dan Duplain told the Columbus Dispatch they eventually want to have restaurants in every major city in Ohio. The current vegan menu features vegan Italian food and items named for famous Ohio residents such alcohol-free cocktails named after the Alcoholics Anonymous founder Dr. Bob Smith.

The Pretender’s singer grew up in Ohio and attended Kent State University for awhile. She now resides in the U.K.

Adjectives To Describe Emmylou Harris: Cheese, Not Bacon Please

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

Although country music legend Emmylou Harris just released a new album in June, she’s no stranger to the music industry and has been praised by the media-even when the praises weren’t exactly the type she was looking for.

Washington Post music critic Josh Freedom duLac once said: “Emmylou Harris is like bacon. She makes everything better.”

“Well, I don’t know if I like that,” she told Straight.com, “because I’m a vegetarian.”

“How about cheese?” she suggested.  “Let’s say cheese.”

The 61 year old Nashville, TN resident lives with her mother and also runs a dog shelter.

Her latest album, All I Intended To Be, features collaborations with Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, and Kate and Anna McGarrigle.

“It encompasses all the different hats I’ve worn—songwriting, doing covers, working with so many great people,” she said. “In a sense, it was a return to a sound that’s been with me throughout my career.”

Last weekend, The Vegiterranean, put 2 of its vegan burgers in the National Hamburger Festival to show who’s really got the (un) beef.

Is Carole King a veg? We haven’t found a source that says so, but 4 years ago she was campaigning for John Kerry and reported as eating a veggie sandwich from Subway.

“When I came in ’84, I came for a candidate I really cared about,” King said while eating a vegetarian sandwich from Subway on Kerry’s campaign bus. “And I’m here again for a candidate I really care about that I really think can do the job America needs.” King was referring to Colorado Senator Gary Hart when she spoke of 1984.

It appears she’s back in New Hampshire, putting in her support for Obama for the next couple of days.

While we don’t know if she’s completely veg, we salute this Natural Woman for choosing healthy on that day!

Is she or isn’t she? Avril Lavigne has been labeled vegetarian by some sources, but there are conflicting stories.

She was in Peta’s poll of sexiest vegetarians in 2005 and 2006. But…

In the January 2003 issue of Seventeen magazine, she admitted to “snagging a bite of Matt’s cheeseburgers every now and again.” Also in a recent interview, she said she prefers not to eat meat, but will not say she’s a vegetarian “in case anyone caught her eating meat”.

Could it just be that she licked her last bones in 2003, then cleaned up her act in ’05 and ’06? Or does she have an on again/off again fling with the cow that changes faster than you can update your Myspace relationship status?

Although we may never know the truth, we do know that her “acting like she’s veg and she’s not makes us frustrated.”

Joss Stone, What’s In Your Shopping Cart?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 10th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Rock & Republic - Backstage - Fall 08 MBFW

Sure, stars are subject to being photographed in public and their trash rummaged through, but snooping in your grocery bags?

Actually it’s not snooping if they allow it and soul-singer Joss Stone did just that while medical doctor, John Briffa, commented on the nutritional value of each item.

“I’ve been a vegetarian all my life. I’ve cooked meat but it has never passed my lips. My mum and dad were vegetarian, and my brothers. I don’t know if I would have been if I wasn’t born into it. But we were never forced,” said Stone.

Some items on Miss Stone’s list included bean crepes, pita bread, Cadbury’s Flake, Quorn Vegetarian Chicken Patties, Peppermint Tea, Salad Sandwiches, and Lager.

“Alcohol does tend to dehydrate the body. However, Joss’ intake is moderate, and it seems she’s well aware of how to ensure fluid levels remain topped up,” Briffa commented.

“I don’t often drink alcohol while I’m touring, because it dries your voice out. After the show I might have one beer. And that’s only if I’ve got two days in between gigs,” said Stone.
