'Strictly Come Dancing' Celebrities Attend Book Signing

The UK Mirror published 50 backstage secrets of the contestants of “Strictly Come Dancing”, a UK television series on BBC1 where celebrities are paired with professional dancers and dance off in competition.

Of course, by looking at some of the “secrets” it’s easy to tell some are obviously fake or intended to be humorous, such as #41: The glitter spray gets everywhere. The crew go home every week inadvertently sparkling.

One particularly humorous “secret” is that of contestant Heather Small, soul singer known for being in the band M People as well as her solo album, Proud.

#47: Heather Small had her shoes made from Teflon because as a strict vegan she refused to wear the leather ones.

Ha, ha! We’re sure Heather has no problem keeping her clothes pressed, then.

Kareena Kapoor Not Vegetarian: That’s Bull#$*!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 10th, 2008 in Actresses, Bollywood.

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor was recently asked about a rumor that since she had a new man in her life, she stopped being vegetarian.

“Bull shit. I am not only a pucca vegetarian but also a teetotaler,” she told Cineviews. A teetotaler is someone who refrains from and promotes the abstinence from alcoholic beverages.

Kareena has quite a way of squashing rumors!

She had dated Shahid Kapoor and during that time they both became vegetarian. Shahid’s recently even gotten his dog involved with the veg life!

She exercises regularly as well, but her routine depends on what character she’s filming.

“I do yoga every day. I also work out every day. Though to get into the skin of my characters in both Golmaal Returns and Salman Khan’s film, I did not need to be like Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, I needed to be in total shape for my character in Tashan.”

Read the rest of the interview with Kareena. It’s filled with good stuff and no bull#$*!

Natalie Portman’s Vegan Shoes Stomped Out By Economy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 5th, 2008 in Actresses, Fashion.

Te Casan Vegan Footwear Collection Launch Party

Very, very sad week for eco-friendly shoes lovers.

Proof that celebrities are not immune to the financial problems the world is enduring, Natalie Portman’s vegan shoes are no longer being produced. The parent company, Te Casan, closed shop, due to failing sales.

It’s not known whether Nat will take her shoes elsewhere for production for the line that was launched in February of this year. The shoes went for about $200 a pair-not exactly a bargain, which may have turned off a lot of people in this economy.

The forecast for affordable, quality, cruelty-free clothing is somewhat grim. Vegan shoes are hard enough to find. Vegan shoes that allow you to still be able to keep the lights on the same month you purchase them may be even more difficult to locate.

Could this mean that vegans and vegetarians who don’t wear leather will end up settling for cheap, imported, pleather shoes which tear and fade after a week and bang your feet up so badly, you need band-aids on your toes just to wear them?

Leona Lewis recognizes this problem and says she wants to make her future vegan shoes and bags easier on the bank account.

Leona, your help can’t come soon enough.

Daryl Hannah Makes Birthday Splash On Whale Wars Boat

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 4th, 2008 in Actresses.

AFI FEST 2006 Portrait Session With Daryl Hannah

Daryl Hannah is making a very different type of Splash from the movie where she starred as a mermaid in 1984.

She marked her 48th birthday, December 3rd, by joining the crew of “Whale Wars” on the Steve Irwin boat to cruise the seas and attempt to stop Japanese whale hunters. (And looking darn fine for a woman near 50, we might add.)

Whale hunting is illegal, but the hunters claim to be doing so for research purposes, which gives them a loophole around the rule. Apparently, Hannah is riding with a winning team. Last year, although the hunters aimed to kill 1,000 whales, they only succeeded in doing so for about half those numbers, thanks to the activists hindering their efforts.

In the past, the crew has attempted to thwart hunters’ efforts through non-violent methods, such as throwing stink bombs with rancid butter on the hunters’ boats and obstructing their pathways in the sea.

Nicole Kidman Grows Own Organic Veggies

Celebrities Attend Australia Photocall

So lots of celebrities are changing their ways when they have children. Some are even going on the arguably extreme side, like Madonna and her dozens of rules for ex-hubby Guy to follow when the kids visit him.

But overall, celebrity mommies and daddies cleaning up their acts for the little ones is a good thing. And going organic is just one way to do so.

Take Nicole Kidman, for example. She grows her own organic vegetables. Gwyneth Paltrow has stated she prefers organic and natural food, which may mean the actress who claims to be vegetarian raises her own turkeys in her backyard, ha, ha. And couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have been spotted shopping for organic produce.

Meatless Mouthful: Why Linda Blair Exorcised Meat And Dairy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, November 30th, 2008 in Actresses, Meatless Mouthful.

Thalians 53rd Anniversary Ball - Arrivals

“In 1988 I was reading an article on pesticides, acid rain and how we farm animals and that’s what made me go vegetarian. And it’s certainly changed my life. I’ve never had a weight problem since. I don’t change weight. And if anyone knows how old I am, you know that there’s something to it. You just become much more aware of foods and the atrocities to animals, what we’re doing to the animals, the planet; the fact is that everything goes hand in hand. Environmentally, how we farm animals affects the environment, affects the riverbeds, affects the ocean, affects the air, and that’s what a lot of people don’t realize.”
—vegan actress Linda Blair, in an interview. She’s best known for playing a possessed child, Regan, in the 1970s film, The Exorcist.
