Quantcast Vegetarian StarFiona Apple In Chipotle “The Scarecrow” Farming App (Video)

Fiona Apple has lent her voice to a new commercial for The Scarecrow, a short animated film that accompanies a new Chipotle Mexican Grill app-based game that explores the negative consequences of factory farming.

Apple sings the famous song “Pure Imagination” while cartoon farmers and corporate leaders go about their day to day activities with animals.

The goal of the game is to help the scarecrow fight the evil Crow Foods and its plan to monopolize the food chain.

On the official site for the game and film, the popular chain Mexican restaurant gives a statement on valuing the family farmer and the benefits smaller farms have on the environment, such as less pesticide use, diverse planting, and rotated crops.

“It‘s time to start producing. Help the last sustainable farm in Plenty survive and thrive, growing food the people actually need,” the site reads. “Sow seeds from the silos and keep the Crowbots from poisoning your crops.”

There’s an opportunity to earn a free burrito if you master four levels of the game that can be played on both an iPhone and iPad.

Chipotle is a food establishment that has made it a priority to source its ingredients from local farms whenever possible and set a goal to do so at 50% by 2010.
