Daphne Oz had her famous cardio surgeon/TV host father, Dr. Oz, write a forward to her book, The Dorm Room Diet, which contains real advice for curbing the freshman 15 from a gal who experienced it herself.

However, daughter Oz has no problem holding down the fort when it comes to dishing dirt on getting healthy, as the 240 page book contains her eight steps aimed at teaching college students nutrition and fitness.

The 2010 edition is a revision to the original book written in 2006 by the vegetarian who also follows a gluten-free diet.

Before Princeton University, Daphne worked with her high school to introduce the Healthy Eating Initiative, a program that replaced many processed meats in the cafeteria menu with whole grains and raw foods.

In college, Daphne made changes to her lifestyle by finding time to exercise and stocking up on nutritious foods like “soy crisps in every flavor,” as she revealed to Self.

An excerpt from The Dorm Room Diet:

“Imagine you’re a freshman at Fat U. You pummel the alarm clock as it sounds the end of a not-so-restful night’s sleep, thanks to the pizza you shared with your roommate at midnight. Groggily, you find your way to the bathroom, cautiously peer into the mirror, and find your face is a mass of dark circles, puffy eyes, and zits. You go through your face-cleaning regimen, applying harsh chemicals to your troubled skin. Because this process takes so long, you don’t have time for a good breakfast, and you run out of the dorm, frazzled and starving. The fact that your belly is hanging over the pants that used to be your “fat jeans” doesn’t improve matters any. “How did I get myself into this mess?!” you wonder, unwrapping a half-crushed candy bar you find at the bottom of your purse.”
