Quantcast Vegetarian StarAlly Zarin–Jill Zarin’s Daughter–Gives Tips For A Green Dorm Room

Ally Shapiro Zarin, daughter of Real Housewives of New York City star Jill Zarin, is co-president of the New York chapter of “Teens Turning Green,” and has created “Project Green Dorm Room,” a guide for frosh and any college students who plan to live in the holding cell otherwise known as a dormitory on how to make the greenest experience of it.

“Basically, our mission is to start a huge movement to stop exposures to toxic environments throughout our lives,” Ally said to Mom Logic. “We try to make people rethink what they do in everyday life, like in their dorm. Just saying you want to be green isn’t enough. You have to get involved and do things actively. You have to change what you eat, what you do and what you buy.”

It’s not known if Ally is on her way to becoming vegetarian too, but with her eco conscious attitude, she’s bound to practice at least some form of Meatless Monday in her life.

Now that you what book to grab that advises on college eating, here’s a guide to what sheets to buy to sleep in while you skip your 8 a.m. class.

  • Reuse old furniture by painting it with no-VOC paint, such as YOLO Colorhouse.
  • Ally’s a big fan of using biodegradable laundry detergents like Soap Nuts — just take three, put them into a canvas bag with your dirty laundry and stick quarters into the machine!
  • Invest in organic sheets. Ally swears by those made by Coyuchi.

if you watch Season 4 Episode 14, She claims to be a vegetarian, but she eats chicken. According to her, she insists she is labeled as a vegetarian, but then she goes on to say in the next sentence that white meat is “ok” and is included in her label for vegetarian. Turkey is apparently ok as well.

She is not a good example of a vegetarian. She is probably just one of those that likes the idea of being viewed as a vegetarian as the cool thing to do in college. Or that it makes her seem more healthy or eco-friendly. Really all it makes her seem is hypocritical and dumb. I liked her before, but as a vegan of 5 years (no animal or animal by-product usage or intake), I find her ignorance offensive. I only hope she doesn’t encourage more of these fake poser vegetarians.
