March 11 marked the start of Be Cruelty-Free Week, a celebration of the European Union’s decision to ban the marketing and sale of cosmetics newly tested on animals.

Several celebrities have voiced their approval of the ban, and have signed the Humane Society of the United States and the Human Society International Be Cruelty-Free Pledge.

Award winning singer-songwriter and vegetarian Colbie Caillat said:

“Everyone wants to look their best. And it’s great to know we can look and feel beautiful without causing pain to animals. The HSUS/HSI’s Be Cruelty-Free campaign is urging companies to stop testing their products on animals. There are so many great products, from skin care products, to shampoo, to makeup, that are cruelty free–there’s just no reason to buy anything else.”
