Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Celebrities are taking full advantage of Twitter these days, serving as their own paparazzi.

Amber Benson, the actress best known for playing Tara Macclay in the TV series, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, recently Twittered (or is it Twitted?) what she was chowing down on to get her strength up before a book signing event.

“Eating veggie udon to get my strength up before the 4 o’clock signing at the Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore in San Diego.”

Yes, this gal is multi-talented. Actress, writer, film director, and film producer who considers herself one of those “pescetarians,” although she was full time vegetarian for 14 years.

Amber’s recent Twitter entry makes a little more sense than vegetarian screen star Russell Brand, who humorously claimed to be an inhumanely farmed animal who milked himself, the ingestion of cheese made from his own products rendering him not fully vegan.

Bedtime Stories Premiere - Los Angeles, CA

“Not vegan yet, i eat cheese made from my own milk, however i am farmed inhumanely and shall report myself to the UN at dawn.”
—comedian Russell Brand in response to a question on his Twitter if he was a vegan. Salma Hayek has been making headlines about breastfeeding babies that aren’t hers-maybe Russell is stocking up on the breast pumps for an entrepreneurial adventure?

We’d like to look more into this “farmed inhumanely” situation. Russell doesn’t seem to be the type you should keep caged…Or should you?

Russell’s Twitter, rustyrockets, is becoming quite popular, gaining 2,000 followers in the first 20 minutes when it launched last month.

Meatless Mouthful: Russell Brand To Be Celibate Vegan

Premiere Of Disney's

“I’m really getting tired of materialism. I don’t reckon I’ve got more than two or three years. I’ve burned out drugs. I’m burning out sex. I don’t even know what I’m doing yet. I’m not ready. I’ve got to be in a position where they can’t go, ‘Didn’t he f*** that stripper? Didn’t he go to that lap-dancing club?’

“There can’t be any of that around. That’s all got to go—until I’m in a position where I can say, ‘Look I’m celibate, I’m a vegan. All I do is meditate, come out and do stand-up and make films.’ ”
—actor and comedian Russell Brand, in an interview where he claims to sleep with 80 women per month.

But all that is supposed to change soon. Let’s not hold our breath, though, for the Vegetarian Starter Kit Cover bad boy.

Food Minister Russell Brand Can Slim Britain’s Fat Transylvanians

What can Russell Brand do for Britain? Reduce obesity rates? Encourage more physical activity? Have naked ladies wearing only lettuce cups go door to door reminding you to eat your veggies?

These are just a few of some possible campaign pointers he should mention in case he decides to run for Food Minister.

Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver has expressed concerns over Britain’s rising health problems and says the country is in need of a Food Minister to help stop and reduce what he calls the “obesity horror show.”

But this horror show doesn’t involve Rocky coming to life. And ooh, girlfriend, those Transylvanians have gotten fa-aat!

Peta UK has jumped on the chance to remind everyone that a vegetarian diet can help you lose weight and is better for the planet and has created its own ballad for vegetarian celebrities that would be perfect for the Food Minister position, including shock jock Brand.

Other celebs on the list include Paul McCartney, Joanna Lumley, Morrissey, Russell Brand, Benjamin Zephaniah, Leona Lewis, Jenny Seagrove, Alexa Chung, Jodie Marsh, Martin Shaw, and Thom Yorke.

Whether you live in the UK or not, you can participate in the decision by going to Fish and Chips and leaving a comment as to who you think should take the helm.

The “obesity horror show” can change. Let’s do the time warp again…but with a vegan Frank. N. Furter.

Does Peta Forgive Russell Brand’s Dead Animal Tossing Too?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 3rd, 2008 in Actors.

Russell Brand Portrait Session

So Peta stands by its people (unless they decide to wear fur after pledging not to or are caught munching on pork rinds by the paparazzi). Even though Russell Brand’s association with their vegetarian starter kit brought complaints and criticism due to an on-air prank he participated in, they stood by their decision to keep him as the cover boy. But do they know about his dead animal toss up act a few years ago?

An article from Female First has recently been brought to attention that Russell Brand once performed a live show where he threw dead animals at the audience. If you could only afford front row seats to that one. Granted, he didn’t eat the dead animals or ask anyone in the audience to taste them.

But still, does Peta know about this? Not that it will change their opinions, but how does this change your opinion on him? Do you find this completely unacceptable for a person promoting a vegetarian lifestyle?

Obviously, people change their ways and no one is perfect. This is just one of the many items on Brand’s shock record, which include an arrest for stripping in a protest march and filming himself taking a bath with a homeless man and living with a prostitute.

Peta On Russell Brand: Vegetarian Blood Is Thicker Than Foul Mouthed Water

Russell Brand Resigns From BBC Radio Show

Russell Brand isn’t known for his saintly behavior or tact. Some might find it funny, but many find his antics and comments offensive. So when people found out he was on the cover of Peta’s Vegetarian Starter Kit, a flood of phone calls and email were sent to the organization by some who didn’t want him associated with the introduction to a meat-free life.

As if Peta wasn’t contraversial enough already.

The latest offensive act, which is the reason people are protesting his appearance on the kit, involved making an on air prank phone call to the home of actor Andrew Sachs.  The call involved leaving an answering machine message stating he, in words we’ll rephrase to keep us from getting blocked from “safe search,” had sexual relations with Sachs granddaughter. Go here to get the uncut version.

Brand was forced to resign from the BBC “Radio 2” show and issued an apology, but in a sarcastic way:

“I would like to take this opportunity to issue a personal Russell Brand apology to Andrew Sachs, the great comic actor who played Manuel, for a message Jonathan and I left on his answerphone, but it was quite funny.”

But hey, it was a joke right? Besides, they belong to the same club.

“The cover will have him on it because Mr. Sachs, who is also a Peta supporter, has accepted Mr. Brand’s apology, and that’s good enough for us,” said Robbie LeBlanc, Peta’s director.
