Oh, boy. Somebody tell Mike Tyson about the wonderful vegan candy bars available

During an interview with Details magazine, Tyson reveals he won’t even cheat for his formerly beloved Baby Ruth and that meat is the new poison.

Details: So you’re going to go the rest of your life without eating a candy bar?
Mike Tyson: Maybe so. I’m pretty fucking extreme.

Details: Not even a Baby Ruth?
Mike Tyson: Oh, man, that’s the best. Chocolate and peanuts. Nah. I ate, like, the tiniest piece of meat, and I woke up violently sick. It was vicious pain. I was throwing up. And I realized meat’s become a poison for me now.

Vegan Go Max Go bars have replicated all your favorite candy bars without the butter and milk.

Mike Tyson joins his family for dinner at Mr Chow in West Hollywood

Mike Tyson‘s interview with the YES Network’s Center Stage airs tomorrow night.

Previous gossip has already revealed Tyson’s announcement that he’s vegan, and here’s a little more explanation from the interview preview.

“I’m a vegan. I don’t eat anything. I’m starving myself, but in order to live I have to die. I feel awesome, and it’s scary.”

Vegans might at first get upset that Tyson’s comment is saying a vegan diet means not eating anything that taste good or it means you’re hungry all the time, but it’s important to note Tyson says he does feel “awesome.”

Plus, he may be on a temporary very restrictive diet until he resolves some health issues, hence the “in order to live,” statement.

Although animal rights activists have criticized his Animal Planet show about pigeon racing, Take On Tyson, it was his love for his possessions that drew him to fighting to begin with.

“I come from this really macho area, so they take my money, take my pigeons, and one day a friend of mine said, “fight back.” And I fought. I had a high-pitched voice, I was really obesely overweight, and so I would never go to school. But, this guy: took one of my pigeons, and my friend said “fight him.” I fought him, and I don’t know, I guess I beat him up and stuff.”

Lesson learned: Don’t ever mess with man’s pigeons! That guy’s lucky he kept his ear.

Did Mike Tyson go vegan to get PETA off his back for racing pigeons in the new Animal Planet show, Take On Tyson?

A poll currently underway at the Huffington Post says “no,” with plenty of comments and opinions.

“The vagan [sic] crowd here on huffpost needs to go watch a few interviews with this man, and then come back and retake the poll. This guy doesn’t give a hoot about anybody but himself.”

“Go vegan, for any reason at all, and you will make the world a better place.”

And our favorite…

“Damn let the man be a vegan.”

Mike Tyson And Wife, Lakiha Have Dinner At Mr Chow On May 11, 2010 In Beverly Hills, CA

Mike Tyson and his wife recently had dinner at Mr. Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills.

Mr. Chow also has locations in London, New York, Miami and one to soon open in Las Vegas.

Since Tyson is a newbie vegan and all, it would have been interesting to know what the former heavyweight champion filled up on.

Mr. Chow featured a special menu for 2010 Valentine’s Day which listed a vegetarian dumpling called “My Little Dumpling.”

Sounds like the perfect appetizer for a veg friendly couple!

Mike Tyson has been seen out and about since announcing he’s become a vegan and TMZ thinks the boxing legend has slimmed down from his diet.

The site also take a stab at Tyson’s new eating habits, saying, “So long Iron Mike … hello, Iron Deficient Mike!”

So disappointing, considering TMZ’s Harvey Levin was showing off a vegan wallet months ago.

If you think being vegetarian or vegan means iron deficiency and weakness, you need to watch your Popeye episodes because all the sailor man ate was spinach and he never missed a beat!

Dr. Neal Barnard, president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, has this to say about meatless diets and iron:

“Iron balance tends to be better on pure vegetarian diets than on other diets. Green leafy vegetables and legumes (beans, peas, and lentils) are rich in a form of iron that is more absorbable if your body needs more iron and less absorbable when your body already has plenty of iron. Avoiding dairy products helps, because they contain virtually no iron and can actually inhibit iron absorption.”

And Dr. Neal Pinckney from The Healing Heart Foundation adds this:

“Most vegetarian diets are high in ascorbic acid (vitamin C), which increases iron absorption up to six times, making the absorption of plant-based iron as good or better than animal-based iron.”

The next obvious step is to double check the list of vegetarian sources of iron to make sure you’re buying the right foods at the grocery store.

Then send a copy of the list to TMZ.
