Bernadette Peters (who’s due for a slice of vegan birthday cake this month) will appear on The View Friday February 19 as part of the show’s 2nd annual special to encourage adoption.

Peters is reportedly bringing her dog along with her as well.

As a spinoff to the Westminster Dog Show, The View will present their version of a dog show, the Mutt Show.

Five mutts up for adoption will be competing and one lucky four legged friend will be awarded the Pedigree Dogs Rule award.

According to Broadway World, Peters will also promote her second children’s book, Stella is a Star. Proceeds from the book are said to go towards Broadway Barks, an organization Peters co-founded with Mary Tyler Moore, that helps find homes for shelter animals.

Sixth Annual Broadway Barks Adoption Event

Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters, both vegetarian women who love animals, will once again host the 11th annual Broadway Barks, a celebrity rich cat and dog adopt-a-thon benefiting New York city’s animal shelters and adoption agencies.

Twenty four-legged creatures will be up for adoption at the event this Saturday, July 11 between 3:30 and 6:30 PM at Schubert Alley in New York City.

If you think this is just another reason for celebrities to get their faces in the press, think again. This deal saves lives!

“According to recent statistics, we learned that we are making a difference,” said Mary Tyler Moore. “In 2002, the rate of euthanasia among shelter animals was at 74% of total intake. We are proud that as a result of our efforts, in 2008, the number of animals killed in NYC shelters has dropped to 39% of total intake. That means nearly 15,000 fewer animals have been euthanized in our city’s shelters compared to 2003.”

This September 24th, Mary Tyler Moore will be joining the cast of “Lipstick Jungle,” to play Brooke Shields’ television mom who is a retired high powered executive enjoying her new role managing her daughter’s life and telling her how to run it.

Her character’s experience may mimic Moore’s real life ascension in the entertainment business.

“I’m fortunate to have had a front row seat to the evolution of working women on television,” Moore said.

Moore was once quote as predicting that one day, meat eating would be just another chapter in the history books.

“It may take a while, but there will probably come a time when we look back and say, ‘Good Lord, do you believe that in the 20th century and early part of the 21st, people were still eating animals?'”
