Kevin Nealon told the LA Times one of his favorite places to eat in southern California is the The Spot in Hermosa Beach.

“I like the Dear George entree, which is fresh vegetables on rice, but it’s the sauce that makes it special. They also do great vegetarian spa tacos.”

The Spot was featured on the Travel Channel’s “Burger Paradise” for its veggie burger packed with vegetables, rice and soy, topped with a hearty helping of avocado.

The Dear George is one of several entrees on The Spot’s “Inflation Busters,” menu, along with a “Dear Bubba,” “Dear Lance,” “Dear Patrick,” “Dear Joe,” and “Dear John.” The “Dear” selections consists of economical, basic plant based choices like beans, rice and tofu mixed with a savory sauce.

Forest Whitaker Advocating Falafel Cart Can Ease NY MTA Hikes

GQ Magazine Hosts The Gentlemen's Ball - Arrivals

New Yorkers are in an uproar over the fare hikes and service cuts the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) has approved in its 2009 budget.

One man expressed his feelings personally by attempting to throw a shoe at Chief Executive Elliot Sander-mimicking the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at George W. Bush, before being escorted out.

People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), being the peace and goodwill promoting organization it is, has offered to help solve this problem so hopefully Chief Sander will only be dodging snowballs this winter.

They would like to purchase advertisement on MTA that would allow riders to hear pro-vegetarian testimonials by vegetarian actors Forest Whitaker, Casey Affleck, and Kevin Nealon.

Fantastic idea, but why not take it a bit further. Along with the personal testimonial, include shout outs as to where to find the food. Something like,”I’m Forest Whitaker and I’m a vegetarian. Check out the Falafel cart at 46th and 6th, may make the advertisement dollars go further.

You can listen to each celebrity’s announcement over at PETA’s blog.

Kevin Nealon’s Chickpea Vegetarian Taco Recipe

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 in Actors, Comedians, Recipes.

Premiere Of Showtimes

Rachel Ray and Emeril better be watching their backs. Kevin Nealon might be waiting for them, ready to attack with his carrot sticks as he apparently knows how to cook a mean chickpea taco. There’s a recipe on Nutrition MD attributed to the Saturday Night Live and Weeds actor.

He once made fun of meat eaters by saying:

“I can’t wait for meal time when I can chow down on the decomposing corpse of a tortured animal. I like knowing that eating meat makes me four times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke.”

Kevin Nealon’s Chickpea Tacos

1 small onion, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 15-ounce can chickpeas, drained
3 – 5 tablespoons salsa
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 dash cayenne pepper, or to taste
8 – 10 taco shells

In large saute pan, heat oil over medium heat.

Cook onion, celery, and green pepper until softened. Add chickpeas, salsa, cumin, and chili powder. Stir and cook until warmed. Mash chickpeas slightly with a fork for better texture.

Fill shells evenly with mixture from saute pan. If desired, top with any of the following: chopped tomatoes, shredded soy or rice cheese, low-fat guacamole, shredded lettuce, hot sauce, or salsa.
