Kimora Lee Simmons

Kimora Lee Simmons was the object of ire when animal rights group Action for Planet questioned why her ex-clothing line, Baby Phat, was selling fur. However, after a series of Tweets, Simmons revealed that she is no longer with Baby Phat and when she was, it was a completely fur-free company.

“I am no longer w tht company! During my tenure, we were fur free! its beyond me now.?—> RT @actionforplanet: @OfficialKimora u claim 2 b an animal lover yet u use rabbit fur n ur fashion line babyphat. Hw do u explain this hypocrisy?”

For what it’s worth, some items on Baby Phat’s website are listed as faux fur.

Talbots

When a company reverses or ignores a previously established policy, it loses creditability. Talbots, a clothing store specializing in women’s fashions, has been on the Humane Society’s fur-free retailers list for a decade. However, the company recently listed an $89 rabbit fur collar for sale as part of its fall collection.

Word of this got out and the company received a deluge of phone calls, emails and posts on Facebook from unhappy consumers regarding the decision to reinstate fur. As a result, the company has dropped the fur offering and declared itself fur-free again. For now.

“Thank you for your concern.,” a statement from the company read. “Talbots always seeks to operate under the highest ethical standards. We have heard our customers’ concerns regarding the items offered that contained real fur. These items have been pulled from stores and are no longer available for sale. Talbots remains committed to its policy against the use of real fur in our collection.”

Leona Lewis Chooses Antonio Berardi For Ethical Costumes On Tour

British singer Leona Lewis performs at the Rock in Rio Music Festival in Lisbon

Leona Lewis has commissioned designer Antonio Berardi to design her costumes for her recent tour.

According to Contact Music, the vegetarian singer spent $262,500 (£175,000) of her own money to ensure the clothing was as ethical as possible.

A source told Britain’s The Sun, “Leona has been very forceful with Antonio. She has insisted the outfits are as ethically sound as they can possibly be. She’s paid for all the clothes out of her own pocket, so she has been quite hands-on in terms of design.”

It’s easier than ever to find designers who specialize in ethical clothing, and you probably won’t have to spend as much as Leona on brands such as those featured in the 5 Affordable Eco Designers That Celebrities Love.

The Humane Society has provided a list of major retailers and their positions on selling fur, such as if fur is not sold or if there are plans to phase furs out by a certain year.

The HSUS list contains information by company, it’s policy on fur, method of verifying the fur status and brands sold under the company affected.
