Political Plates: Obama-Vegetable Pizza, Dennis Kucinich-Tan Moderate

Democratic Candidates Attend DNC Fall Meeting

It’s good to keep up on political issues, whether you like any of the candidates or not. You should be studying energy and immigration policies, how each are planning to solve the high-priced gas issue, and whether McCain likes pepperoni or vegetable pizza.

Yes, that right. You need to know what the politicians are eating!

Vegan Dennis Kucinich is said to favor food of the same color-moderate tan. Of course this sounds as if someone is obviously poking fun at his vegan preferences of hummus, pasta, and pad thai.

McCain may be be furthest from the vegan politician, and not just in terms of views. One of his favorite foods include pepperoni pizza. And we’re not talking about the soy kind. According to the Chicago Sun Times, he is also a big fan of the very unveggie B.L.T.

Executive chef Scot Jones of The Vegiterranean, a vegan restaurant co-owned by him and Pretenders Rocker Chrissie Hynde in Ohio, suggested that regardless of what party you root for, you must admit your favorite politician could probably benefit from some eating improvements.

“The eating habits of both Republicans and Democrats need to change across America,” he said. “People are eating too much saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol and sugar. The level of juvenile diabetes is absurd. The only way we can start to stop this is if the White House starts thinking about our future.”

Maybe that change is sooner than we think. Obama already wants more veggies for the children. And he also likes vegetable pizza.

Even Vegan Moby Thinks You Sometimes Have To Break An Egg

Duran Duran Celebrates

Dear Senator Obama…

“This might be a strange analogy for a vegan to use, but if you want to make an omelet
you have to break a couple of eggs. Start breaking some eggs.”

Vegan Moby decided to write a letter to Senator Obama in the Huffington Post to urge him to fight even harder for an upcoming presidential election victory. His less than warm feelings for McCain are shown by attacking his knowledge of both politics and geography:

“Dear senator Obama: FIGHT BACK. You’re battling a dimwit who doesn’t know the difference between Sunni and Shi’ite, who still refers to countries that ceased to exist in 1993(Czechoslovakia), and who believes that Iraq and Pakistan share a border.”

He’s also a little less than pleased at how the recent Democrats have challenged the G.O.P:

“In 2000 they slandered Al Gore as saying he invented the internet and was an elitist. And he fought back how? Oh, that’s right, he didn’t. And in 2004 they slandered John Kerry by questioning his military service. And he fought back how? Oh, that’s right, he didn’t. And now they’re slandering Obama in a hundred insidious and incorrect ways. And he’s fighting back how? Oh, that’s right, he isn’t.”

Judging from Moby’s criticism, Obama may have to start throwing a few punches to at least make the junior varsity team.

Obama Can Pronounce “Vegan”-Wants More Veggies For The Children

Barack Obama Holds Town Hall Meeting In Cedar Rapids

Nikki Benoit, Outreach Coordinator for Florida Voices for Animals, attended an Obama speech at St. Pete Gibbs High in Florida last week and was delighted to hear him discuss the environment, factory farming, and children getting more nutritious food in schools. She was also ecstatic that he could pronounce “vegan.”

“As I was being handed the mic, Obama read my shirt out loud – “Vegan Outreach” . . . . .YES!!! HE DID!!! AND…he pronounced it RIGHT!!!”

Some other points in the Obama speech included more preventative measures to address the health care crisis, such as changing America’s eating habits and he said schools need more fruits and vegetables versus pre-packaged food and meat products.

The story, at Vegan.com, ends with the blogger wondering how McCain would pronounce “vegan.”
