Rufus Wainwright

Rufus Wainwright is well into his vegetarian conversion, except for the occasional slip here and there at the seafood restaurants in New York.

“I’ve become a vegetarian, and I’m adjusting,” Wainwright told the New York Post when he rambled off a list of his favorite eating spots in the area. “I admit, I have succumbed to in my vegetarian state occasionally, but don’t hate me.”

Luckily, there is Provisions Natural Foods Market and Organic Cafe in Sag Harbor to counteract all that fishy karma.

Zac Brown
Zac Brown of the country music Zac Brown Band must have heeded PETA’s advice when it suggested months ago he offer vegan food at the band’s “Eat and Greet” sessions.

If you recall, the band, who’s famous for their song “Chicken Fried,” initially responded to the request on Twitter with a “Dear PETA – Plants are living creatures too… Bacon had a mother but so did Pickle. It takes life to support life – welcome to the planet.” Moments later, another Tweet surfaced that said, “Chicken is the new tofu.”

Now, Zac Brown is boasting his new spicy, ginger marinade is vegan. What’s next? Seitan Fried Steak.

Ozzy Osbourne On Organics And How To Ease The Price Pain

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, July 19th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Male Singers.

Ozzy Osbourne has joined us by embracing a mostly vegetarian diet, but he doesn’t have the kindest words to say about organic food prices.

“If you can feed a big family a bucket of KFC for 10 bucks then you’ll do that. Not everyone can afford the healthy, organic shit they say were meant to eat.”

He’s got a good point. Chowhound did a little experiment to assess the cost difference between eating conventional and eating organic on a week’s worth of groceries. The total cost of the conventional shopping list came to $136.31 while the cost of the organic totaled $199.78–about $65 more.

Paul McCartney

It’s been awhile since Paul McCartney had beef on a bun, so it’s only fit that the McDonald’s in his home town of Liverpool finally take those pictures of him and other Beatles off the wall.

The story made headlines a couple of years ago, when it was reported the singer was upset that over a dozen shots of the 60s iconic rock group were plastered over the Sefton Street fast food restaurant.

John Feldmann

What will it be for breakfast next time? Tofu scramble? Vegan french toast? How about tofu french toast.

Sounds a little strange, but Goldfinger singer John Feldmann has a recipe combining the sweet taste of soy milk and sugar on french bread with the protein kick of tofu.

The masterpiece, taken from PETA’s 2002 book, The PETA celebrity cookbook, will probably give you the same feeling you got when you first tried tofu in dessert–from pudding to pie filling, it sounded so wrong, but tasted so darn good.

Weird Al Yankovic
Weird Al Yankovic recently had the chance to sample vegetarian cuisine from The Mustard Seed, a natural foods store and deli located in Watertown, New York, a city close to the Canadian Border and Thousand Islands.

To fuel Weird Al before and after his concert performance, stage crew manager J.P. Voytko said he had to think a moment before catering for Al, since most other performers are satisfied with standard road kill entrees.

Franz Nicolay

“I’ve been a life-long vegetarian, and sometimes people say, “Aren’t you curious to have a steak?” The answer is that since I’ve literally never looked at meat as potential food, a piece of chicken looks about as mouth-watering as a cardboard box.”

–Instrumentalist and composer Franz Nicolay, to Large Hearted Boy.
