Jillian Michaels has announced the next season of “The Biggest Loser” that kicks off in January 2011 will be her last.
The pescatarian coach who recently teamed with So Delicious to promote non-dairy coconut milk, said she’d like to spend her time working to make Physical Education a priority in schools and get more subsidies to organic farmers.
“When I look at the platform I was able to have because of the show, I wonder what else I could be doing with it or should be doing with it,” Michaels said of her fame.
Vegetarians know well the painful consequences of the big “S” word. We pay a fortune for a plate of organic tofu and vegetables when dining out while our McDonald’s counterparts get by with $1 burgers because of meat subsidies.
Organic farming assistance is available, but scarce.
In the United States, 65% of the approximately $16.5 billion in annual subsidies went to the top 10% of farmers in 2002, but organic farmers only received $5 million for help in certification and $15 million for research over a 5-year time period.
Let’s hope Michaels whips these fat cats into shape and gets resources to the little guys who will ultimately help America shape up by providing them with better quality food.
