Donna Karan Rabbit Fur Return Prompts PETA Protest

Donna Karan is making herself known as the pendulum that can’t stop swinging in the fashion world. She used fur in previous clothing collections and after pressure from animal rights groups like PETA, agreed to remove it from her 2009 line.
However, she’s back again with designs that incorporate rabbit fur, so PETA used the opportunity to protest outside the location of a fundraiser Karan hosted with Michelle Obama, who won’t be wearing any items from the collection. Dan Matthews, senior VP of PETA was quoted by The Gothamist as saying, “We think Donna Karan should take a fashion tip from the first lady, who has officially announced that she is fur-free.”
According to the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade, there are two main types of rabbits used for fur, the Rex and New Zealand White (or California White).
All breeds used for fur are kept in wire cages with little room to hop, stretch or move otherwise and may develop spine deformities from being kept in such conditions.
Undercover investigations in both China and Europe, two countries that export rabbit fur and where Giorgio Armani sources rabbit fur from have revealed slaughter practices that involve rabbits being hit with sticks, having throats slit, being stunned with electrical devices and being left to bleed for some time before death.
A video of one investigation by PETA can be viewed here.

It’s so pathetic … how could someone wear fur just for the sake of fashion. There is so much emphasis on fur for fall 2010 fashions, it’s really sad. People need to know the truth about the fur industry and get the message to designers and magazine editors that wearing fur is cruel. Faux fur is no better because you’re still saying it’s OK to wear fur.

It is time for people who not only make fur but ,wear fur to step out of the stone age…it is a cruel, barbaric and inhumane practice that must stop and I for one will not support an industry that does.
All they are doing ,is catering to over-privileged people with too much money ,that are trying to make a fashion statement…However the only statement they are making, is that they support animals being gassed, anally electrocuted(to protect the fur),having their throats slit and many times, being skinned alive…all so they can “look good and keep warm”,when there are so many other humane and fashionable ways to do exactly that:”look good and keep warm” I will boycott Donna Karan until she comes to her senses(permanently) and will tell all my family and FB friends to do the same!

Fur looks better on the animal and is a very over Rated style. Come out o the dark ages, stop killing innocent life and use fake fur
