Quantcast Vegetarian StarSophia Bush Embraces Meat Free Mondays, May Need Vegetarian Dietitian

Sophia Bush

Sophia Bush of One Tree Hill has toyed with vegetarianism and veganism, but finds it hard to keep up the diet and lifestyle after a few days.

“I don’t know if it’s a blood type thing or what, but if I don’t eat meat for a few days I actually start to get sick,” Bush told Ecostiletto. “But what I’ve done is decrease the amount of meat that I eat. I read a statistic that if Americans cut their consumption of meat in half—any kind of meat, beef or chicken—we would lower our greenhouse gas emissions by something like 60%. It’s astonishing.”

“You start to become a little more conscious and realize that you can be healthy and feed your body protein in other ways. I think Paul McCartney’s meat-free Mondays idea is so cool—I try to stick to that. It’s not hard to give it up for a day. I try to be conscious, to cut down on my percentage. I know that it’s the right thing to do.”

While it would be great to put Bush’s body through a scanner that pinpoints exactly what she needs (protein, B12) to keep feeling good after a week of not eating meat, there are better resources that could lead her or anyone else who finds it difficult to stay healthy without animal products.

The American Dietetic Association has a page that allows you to not only locate a dietitian in your area, but filter that professional based on specific health need, such as diabetes control or allergies.

Sure enough, there is a filter for vegetarian nutrition. A search in the state of Illinois, for example, with filters for both “vegetarian nutrition” and “individual consultation” reveals there are about 100 registered dietitians in the state who offer such services.
