The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is suing the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for not offering a vegetarian alternative to the food pyramid introduced by the USDA 20 years ago.

PCRM, a doctor’s group that advocates a plant-based diet, is proposing the Power Plate, which offers meal ideas from the four food groups of grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables. It’s been said it’s ultimately the parent’s job to educate children and if school cafeterias won’t stop serving junk for food, you’re going to have to submit your vegetarian recipes to teach them to cook something else!

White House Market Included In USDA Searchable Database Of Farmers Markets

Michelle Obama Visits New Farmers Market In Washington DC

The Fresh Farm Farmers Market just two blocks from the White House is already listed in the USDA searchable database where consumers can search by state for a market near their home.

However, there are dozens that might need to be included and the government is asking people to fill out an online form to submit their Farmers Market before June 4, 2010.

Anyone can add a listing, but obviously it’s best if a manager or otherwise important person who runs the market does this to ensure your area farmers get the maximum exposure.

Besides the location, the database also tells if the market accepts government assistance programs for the needy, such as WIC and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
