Five years ago, Sara Sohn launched a vegan treat company specializing in using vegan marshmallows in s’more-like desserts.

Sweet & Sara products have gained national attention and have been featured in the Food Network magazine and by Rachael Ray.

An inspiration to vegetarian and vegan entrepreneurs, Sohn recently spoke with VegNews about her idea to start the business, which is truly a family affair.

VN: Your family is very important to you and your company. How are they involved?

SS: You mean besides being loyal taste testers? My parents are the most hardworking, supportive people in the world. Mom’s super tiny but she’s got super strength. She does everything from putting sticker labels on all the products, to helping out in the kitchen, to running up and down four flights to get the mail, to feeding our staff. Dad is the handyman and fixes everything and anything in the factory, and believe me, there’s never a day where something does not need repair. My sister makes sure all the orders get packed efficiently and is the peacemaker when my parents and I squabble about who forgot to water the plants. She is also the genius behind our brand name.

Sweet and Sara and its vegan marshmallows are featured in the April 2010 issue of Food Network Magazine.

It’s about time vegan bakers help offset some of Paul Deen‘s usual recipe of the month of butter dipped battered ham and beef stack wrapped in bacon and drizzled with melted lard patties.

The company headquartered in Long Island City in New York is the home of vegan treats such as marshmallows without gelatin, vegan S’mores and other vegan desserts.

Sweet and Sara has been featured on the Food Network series “Unwrapped” and has also had one of its products named “Snack of the Day” on Rachael Ray‘s website.

Food Network “Unwrapped” Sweet And Sara Vegan Smores (Video)

The Food Network’s Unwrapped recently featured New York based Sweet and Sara, a company that makes vegan marshmallows, smores and other desserts.

Unwrapped gives the behind the scenes look at how some foods are created.

The crew at Sweet and Sara is all about putting the ingredient of TLC into their products. No machine manufactured smores are coming from this company.

“Our smores are made entirely from scratch,” said Sara Sohn, founder of Sweet & Sara.  “We hand scoop every graham cookie, we weigh out every marshmallow filling, we handcoat every s’more with chocolate, no mass production, no industrial equipment.”

Sweet and Sara peanut butter smores were featured on Rachael Ray.

Watch the clip for some sinfully delicious food voyeurism into the Sweet and Sara facility.

Rachael Ray Hosts The Burger Bash

Exciting news in the world of celebrity chefs!

Today, Rachael Ray is featuring a treat containing vegan marshmallows, specifically, the goodies created and distributed by Sweet & Sara.

Sweet & Sara Peanut Butter smores are getting some deliciously sweet press on the Rachael Ray Show website.

Nice Karma balance, after Rachael hosted the Burger Bash with bacon lusting Guy Fieri.

The Peanut Butter Smore is the Sweet and Sara original Smore made with gelatin free marshmallow with a layer of smooth peanut butter on top a graham cracker.

These guys have worked the vegan marshmallow in ways you couldn’t imagine.

They also feature strawberry marshmallows, toasted coconut, and even cinnamon pecan in their product line, all handmade in a dedicated vegan facility.

Sounds like a factory where Willie Wonka gave up the egg and dairy.

The company is headquartered in Long Island City, New York.

We imagine their phones should be ringing off the hook for orders any minute now.
