Frank Iero Demonstrates His Macbeth Cancer Fighting Shoes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, March 1st, 2009 in Fashion, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Videos.

Not long ago, we told you how Frank Iero of My Chemical Romance and LeATHERMOUTH designed some vegan shoes for MacBeth that included anatomically correct figures and instructions showing men and women how to check for and prevent testicular and breast cancer.

Here’s a video of Frank personally introducing the shoe in which portions of the sales go to the Syrentha Savio Endowment, a non-profit organization that works to fight breast cancer.

Frank shows where and how to cut the shoe to reveal his “artwork.”

There are two versions of the shoe, rated G and PG-13, depending on if you want to “fight” cancer, or use a more color expression, as you can see from the still frame of the video.

Franks jokes he hopes you like it, but if you don’t, don’t tell him.

We’ll clear the air of any suspicion: We like them!

From Stray Cats To Spayed Cats, Meatloaf Needs Lentils In Name

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 12th, 2009 in Bands.

2009 MusiCares

We’ve already stated our position on asking a man to change his name for a PETA campaign. Now it looks like PETA Jr., or peta2.org, is doing the same thing, and created a list of bands that should change their names from animal unfriendly to friendly ones.

We agree there are some bands out there with names that sound oh so ugly to the vegetarian’s ear. What’s worse is that some of these bands are vegetarian!

Frank Iero, MacBeth vegan shoe boy, is in a band called Leathermouth. Ewww! Peta2 thinks “Pleathermouth” is better for the image. Please pass this on to their agents.

Meatloaf, who at least once dabbled in vegetarianism, could sell more albums to vegans if he called himself “Lentil Loaf.”

The creepiest of all? Cattle Decapitation, a death metal band full of vegetarians, who PETA thinks should rename themselves “Cattle Appreciation.” Cattle Decapitation? We’re with you on that one, PETA!

We can’t forget that caring for animals is just as important as not eating them, and the Stray Cats are overpopulating the music scene. Please takes those guys to the vet, so they can be the “Spayed Cats.”

For the remaining list of bands who should undergo name overhaul, visit peta2.org.

Tegan And Sara Had Their Own Vegan Shoe B*tch

The Tegan and Sara Macbeth Shoes! by Sara and Emy

Pop music twins Tegan and Sara have a nice pair of a new MacBeth vegan shoes out this month and looks like Sara did a little self-promo via a conversation with Emy Storey, the Art Director for the ladies who played a big role in making the shoes, posted on Myspace.

Cute twins, cruelty free shoes shoes-it doesn’t get any happier than this.

Sara and Emy spend a lot of time joking around-like mentioning that Sara sewed all the shoes herself. And spent thousands of hours on them.

“She grew rubber trees and made the soles,” Emy remarks.

“I know you think you’re so funny,” replies Sara sarcastically.

Sara asks Emy what she specifically used for inspiration to make the shoe and after Emy explains, Sara says that basically she listened to them exactly and that makes her a Tegan and Sara shoe bitch.

Love it!

Hunter Burgan: Animals Don’t Wear Shoes With Human Glue

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 16th, 2009 in Fashion, Male Musicians, Videos.

Find out more about Hunter Burgan at peta2.com.

Hunter Burgan has been (veganly) eating up the spotlight since he’s become Vegan Ambassador for MacBeth shoes.

He sat down with Peta2 for an interview about his recent promotion:

Why was it important for you to design an all-vegan shoe, even down to the glue used?
First off, have you ever worn a pair of shoes without glue? They just fall apart. So, if they are going to use glue, it’s going to have to be vegan glue. You know, animals don’t wear shoes with human glue—it’s just disrespectful.

Makes perfect sense.

You can watch Hunter’s MacBeth video above and see him doing a spastic like dance before taking out an umbrella to protect himself from-you guessed it-raining shoes.

You can also enter a contest to win a pair of Hunter’s new shoes and an iPod nano, but you must do so before February 2nd.

AFI’s Hunter Burgan Is Cover Boy For MacBeth Vegan Shoes

KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas - Day 1

Not happy with band mate Davey Havok hogging all the vegan fashion spotlight with his Zu Boutique designer clothing, AFI bassist Hunter Burgan has agreed to be the Vegan Ambassador for MacBeth Shoes.

MacBeth has “crowned” him Vegan Ambassador and announced the news that he is designing another vegan shoe for the line.

Wonder if there is serious catty competition among the boys lately?

The Hunter

In a statement, MacBeth said:

“Burgan’s dedication to vegan ideals and his friendship with Macbeth have already helped build the Macbeth Vegan program into what it is today. Burgan will be the face and focus of Macbeth’s Vegan program, involved in all things vegan related, from hosting a new vegan blog to helping with design, and everything in between.”

The shoe, aptly titled, “The Hunter,” was designed to be not only pretty, but functional as well.

“Burgan’s design goal for his second Studio Project was to create a vegan high top that is the perfect marriage between fashion and function. He needs a shoe that provides ankle support for his active live performances, but also wanted something that reflects his sophisticated design aesthetic.”

Burgan’s pretty/practical high top is scheduled to be available globally in February. By then, Davey will have a new T-shirt out and one-upped him.

Frank Iero isn’t the only vegan musician who can strut around in his vegan MacBeth shoes.

Missy Higgins did an interview with MVids where she wore hers too. If you don’t know about how Missy makes her tours carbon neutral, you should watch below. At least have a look at her shoes!
