Olivia Wilde has been working with organizations helping Haiti to recover from the devastating earthquake that struck earlier this year.

Wilde’s latest project is helping Haitian students learn to grow their own food, as she recently Tweeted about the anticipated experience.

“I cannot wait to get back to Port au Prince and start planting veggies with our students!”

In addition to her hands on efforts, the star is one of many who are auctioning off their Golden Globe outfits as a way to raise money to go towards relief efforts.

Deirdre Imus has collaborated with Operation Goody Bag Founder, Jane Cosco, to send healthy, non-toxic goody bags to children affected by the devastating earthquakes in Haiti earlier this year.

Kids-Love-Kids program has already sent 700 bags to Haiti and another shipment of 5,000 will be sent in April.

Cosco has been sending bags to troops for quite some time, but the vegetarian and environmentally conscious Imus wanted to step it up a notch and ensure the children were getting the best treats.

“We put organic lollipops, organic, gluten-free Yummy Bears, organic gum, organic granola bars, teddy bears, coloring books in French and English and non-toxic crayons inside the bags, which cost only $4 to produce,” Imus said.

“What’s so great about the program is that its easy and it doesn’t cost a lot of money to do. For $4 you can send a goody bag to a child in Haiti. The idea for Kids-Love-Kids is that this is a little thing we can do to let the children there know, ‘We care about you and we’re not forgetting you.’ It’s like getting a hug from one child to another.”

Humane Society Of The United States

The Humane Society International, a division of the Humane Society of the United States,  has assembled a plan to respond to animals affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

A team of veterinarian experts are expected to enter the Port au Prince area in the next 48 hours.

Representing the HSI will be both the HSUS and the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association.

Both groups are partnering with a group in the Dominican Republic, Veterinary Care & Humane Services, Caribbean Project (VCHS).

An update from the HSUS website:

“Our HSI/HSUS/HSVMA field responders include a French-speaking veterinarian and a paramedic trained in disaster response and animal handling. They will be accompanied by two veterinary technicians from VCHS and a translator. The team will provide immediate animal care as it can, and also assess conditions for animals in the capitol city and surrounding areas. As circumstances permit, our experts will also advise emergency and relief workers on extra steps they might take in the coming days to alleviate the suffering of animals while the desperate work to help the island’s human population continues.”
