Bill Clinton Discusses Vegan Diet With AARP Magazine

Bill Clinton discussed the diet that is keeping him healthy in his sixth decade of life with AARP, the premier lifestyle and information magazine for senior citizens.

Like many readers of the publication, one of Clinton’s main motivations for adopting a healthier lifestyle was to enjoy his future grandchildren.

“I just decided that I was the high-risk person, and I didn’t want to fool with this anymore. And I wanted to live to be a grandfather,” said Clinton. “So I decided to pick the diet that I thought would maximize my chances of long-term survival.”

In a video posted by Bloomberg Businesweek, editor Josh Tyrangiel discussed Bill Clinton’s role as ‘Consultant-in-Chief’ and what’s been keeping him look so go while doing the part.

“We did a photo shoot with him. He walks in–and he still has the ability to change the temperature of any room he walks into. And I said to his guy, “You know, he looks fantastic. How are you keeping him in shape?” And he said “kale.”

“I was lucky I did not die of a heart attack [in 2004]. When I had my second heart incident [in 2010] and I had the stents put in, I had passed all my physicals, I was doing great, but I was still building up plaque in my arteries. So I decided that I wanted to see if I could live to be a grandfather, so I just went all the way. Now, I try to eat some salmon once a week, but I don’t miss any of that. Getting rid of the dairy was great, getting rid of the meat was–I just don’t miss it.”

Bill Clinton, who although may miss the posh lifestyle of his White House years, doesn’t miss his old diet.

Bill Clinton recently visited the Sacramento Auditorium to give a speech on current affairs.

Clinton, who adopted a vegan diet after a series of heart scares, enjoyed food created by chef Adam Pechal, executive chef and owner of Tuli Bistro and Restaurant THIR13EN.

“Cooking vegan is not my forte, but I love a challenge,” said Pechal. “This was a once in a lifetime thing.”

Hillary Clinton celebrated her 65th birthday with Bill and daughter Chelsea at the lavish Mayflower Inn in Washington, Connecticut.

The family, which included Chelsea’s husband, reportedly dined on a vegan, gluten-free cake during the occasion.

It’s not known if Hillary has taken the plunge and gone vegan like daughter Chelsea and husband Bill, but she does appear to frequently dine on plant-based food.

Americans may not be decided on who’s best to run the country yet, but they’re pretty sure who they’d rather have a burger with.

In a poll of 2094 Americans by chain restaurant Smashburger, 59% said they’d pick Barack Obama to dine with versus 41% for Mitt Romney.
