Mark Bittman was a guest on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to discuss his latest book, VB6: Eat Vegan Before Six, and his self-made flexitarian eating plan behind the book’s guidelines.
Eating vegan or almost vegan isn’t just a matter of taste or preference, according to Bittman.
It’s what nature intended us to do.
“The concept is quite simple,” said Bittman.
“The science says to us we need to eat more plants and less of everything else. What’s the strategy or a strategy for doing that? Mine was–and I’ve been doing this for six years and it works–is to eat plants, that is fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts during the day and at six o’clock do whatever you want.”
By doing this, Bittman explained, you’ve changed at least two thirds of your habits, which is a big step for doing what he accomplished–bettering your health by losing weight, lowering your cholesterol and more.
Bittman also discussed the evidence that vegetarians and vegans live longer and how many non plant-based foods do the exact opposite.
Watch the clip to learn the types of meals Bittman consumes each day to stick to his flexitarian vegan plan.
