Miley Cyrus has used the power of Twitter to gain support for an end to horse-drawn carriages.
The pop singing star sent a message out to her 11 million followers to sign a petition that would allow horses working in carriages in New York City to retire.
“NYC is just 761 signatures shy of 100,000 petition goal to #FreeTheHorsesNYC! Sign @NYCLASS petition at http://StopHorseAbuse.com,” she wrote.
The organization NYCLASS is sponsoring the petition, which asks New York City council members to pass legislation ending the horse-drawn carriages in the city. The same group has advocated replacing the carriages with eco-friendly, electic-hybrid, vintage model cars.
Horse-drawn carriages are not only hazardous to horses, they’re bad for people too.
Numerous collisions with vehicles that have resulted in injury have occurred in the city.
Find out how to add your signature to the petition here.
