Ke$ha has recorded a clip for the Humane Society International to help raise awareness on the practice of shark finning.
The singer joined HSI as its first Global Ambassador last year, and is now using her position to save these large, beautiful animals.
“Each year, humans kill about 100 million sharks,” Kesha says in the video, emphasizing that many of these sharks are killed soley for their fins.
She asks that her fans take HSI’s No Shark Fin pledge, stating that you will never consume or serve shark fins or shark fin products.
Finning is a practice used to obtain what is considered a delicacy in some Asian meals and celebrations, such as shark fin soup and Lunar New Year. According to the pledge’s page, shark finning not only harm sharks, but humans as well, as the parts are often high in mercury.
