Quantcast Vegetarian StarChristine Taylor Ben Still Raising Happy Plant-Based Children

Christine Taylor

Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller are trying to raise their children on a plant-based diet, but Taylor admits it’s a little harder once they’ve been introduced to animal products.

“We have friends that are vegan and their kids came out vegan,” Taylor told People. “I’m so jealous that they had the information and they started the kids early because now to go back, it’s a little harder.”

The information on raising healthy, vegan kids is available from dozens of reputable sources, including Lisa Dorfman, board certified sports dietitian, registered dietitian, licensed mental health counselor, director of the Masters in Nutrition for Health & Human Performance Program in the Department of Kinesiology & Sport Sciences at University of Miami, and author of four books on nutrition including the The Vegetarian Sports Nutrition Guide.

Dorfman outlined a few helpful hints for parents who want their children eating only what grows from the ground and says overall, it’s important to keep meal time fun because “plant-based foods are very happy foods.”

Calories:
“Knowing what your nutritional needs are for how many calories are necessary to support your activities and your growth when it comes to the case of kids is absolutely critical,” Dorfman said.

Protein:
“It helps with growth, repair, the immune system. It builds collagen so that your skin, your hair, your tendons – everything that sort of glues you together is in tact. It helps with enzymes and hormones.”

The Picky Eaters:
“Muffins, smoothies, soup, and vegan lasagna are great places to disguise less appealing veggies or additives for kids who are picky.”
