Quantcast Vegetarian StarSophia Bush Lists Oatmeal And Brown Rice As Top Food Picks

Sophia Bush has shared some of her favorite foods with Shape magazine.

Although she usually aims for foods with high nutritional content, occasionally she’ll indulge with her favorite ice cream.

“It’s all about balance — it is important to maintain a healthy diet of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, but it’s also important to enjoy yourself once in a while, and sometimes that means letting yourself give in to your cravings, whatever they may be,” Sophia said.

As expected, the near-vegetarian lists oatmeal and brown rice as her top choices.

Both items are usually available in an instant variety, but can you still get the health benefits if you eat them from a single-size package?

Filled with good for you nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, potassium and folate, oatmeal is a great way to fight hunger in the morning. Although instant oatmeal may be more convenient, Health.com recommends choosing coarse or steel-cut oats, as those contain more fiber.

On the other hand, according to the Whole Grains Council, there have been no differences in the nutritional value of slow-cooked versus instant rice and instant brown rice has been shown to sometimes have a lower glycemic index than the slow-cooked variety.
