The Today Show recently featured the Humane Society’s End Dogfighting program and CEO of the HSUS Wayne Pacelle‘s new book about the relationship between animals and humans, The Bond.
Sharing the spotlight with Meredith Vieira was Pacelle, a representative from End Dogfighting and one incredibly cute dog named June Bug who was saved from the life of a dog fighter.
“We want to reach these kids before they get into the enterprise because we don’t want to just deal with the effects of dog fighting,” Pacelle said of the End Dogfighting program. “We want to prevent dogs from being in this situation to begin with.”
“We have an instinctive bond with animals,” he continued. “We don’t want it to skid off the tracks, get corrupted. We want to have this wonderful relationship with animals.”
End Dogfighting aims to prevent youth from going into dog fighting by teaching them to care for their animals through regular workshops in the cities of Chicago, Atlanta and Philadelphia.
More information on the End Dogfighting program can be found at the Humane Society.
