Continental Airlines Passenger Throws Non Vegetarian Tray At Attendant

We don’t have any doubts why United and not Continental has the slogan “Fly The Friendly Skies.” There was nothing friendly about the event that took place on a Newark bound flight when a woman did not receive a vegetarian meal she found suitable.
Maybe Continental should make its slogan, “If it has a face, throw it in our face.”
The 30-year old woman who threw her food and tray at the flight attendant not only disliked the food brought out to her, but the way it was prepared. Contrary to her request, the meal wasn’t vegetarian.
“She said she was a vegetarian and she didn’t like what she was being served,” said an airline official. “So she threw the food tray — and the food — at the attendant.”
Continental is trying. It offers vegan and vegetarian meals on flights, but does recommend you order them at least 24 hours prior to departure. You can also plan ahead and pack your own.
Hopefully, when the woman landed (where she was met by police, but no charges were filed), there was a vegetarian friendly airport to satisfy her appetite and take the grumpiness away.

What was actually wrong with the meal? I am guessing that there was something to the effect that there was meat in the meal? Or that the meal was made in a way that offended the idea of vegan or vegitarian? Like fried food fried in fat?

She should have been arrested. There is not excuse for her behaviour.

There’s a good deal of information omitted here. For instance, did she request a vegetarian meal in advance ? If so, I might have been pretty p.o.’d if I’d been served meat. Still, that’s no excuse for her behavior. However, if she just got on the plane expecting a vegetarian option to be available, then she’s out to lunch. Anyone with specific dietary needs should know to check in advance. This goes for any establishment but especially airlines; you can only get what they’ve brought, and if you don’t ask for a particular dietary accommodation, they wont bring it. It’s unfortunate but true.
I’m vegan. I would never take a chance and assume I’ll be automatically accommodated. I’ve been requesting (and receiving) vegan meals on my flights for well over a decade.
All she had to do was request her meal before the flight. I suspect she didn’t, and then she freaked out over something SHE didnt didn’t take the responsibility to arrange???

Taking issue with violence towards animals means you should NOT be violent towards other human beings, either. Violence is never right, and violence to justify the violence of meat isn’t right, either. Especially when the flight attendant didn’t cook, let alone kill the animal!
