Alicia Silverstone shot a video for The Doctors television show in which she shares some tips for her vegan diet book, The Kind Life, which has just been released in paperback.
Sore throat or runny nose? It’s time for Miso Soup For The Soul!
Silverstone says the dish containing the Japanese seasoning made from fermenting soybeans, rice and barley will make you feel as good as you did when mom gave you the bird version of the get-better-soon soup.
“Miso soup will cure you,” Silverstone says. “If you’re feeling like you might be sick and you wanted to have the chicken noodle soup, this is a much better alternative. It will heal you, nourish you, boost your immune system–it’s really, really good for you when you’re sick. So try it.”
Silverstone also has a recipe for her dressed-up version of Miso soup with Kaboucha squash on her website, The Kind Life.
And stay away from too much sugar, which can suppress your immune system and lead to getting sick again. Don’t worry, you don’t need to catch a cold to enjoy miso soup everyday!
