Emily Deschanel

Emily Deschanel is the queen of all things vegan. From her activism for animals to sharing her dietary advice to giving fashion tips, the Bones’ actress could be the face of humane if you looked up the word in the dictionary.

The Humane Society of the United States agrees and has honored Deschanel with the Humane Advocate Award for her work with animals.

Deschanel’s character on Bones is a vegetarian, and the producers have found ways to incorporate this lifestyle in episodes, such as one involving the mysterious disappearance of an animal rights activist investigating a chicken farm.

“When someone tells me they stopped eating chicken because of the Bones factory farming episode we did last year, I consider that a small victory,” Deschanel said in a statement.

“Emily is a true champion of the animal protection cause, who walks the walk and talks the talk both personally and professionally,” said Beverly Kaskey, senior director of the Hollywood office of the HSUS. “Not only is she willing to actively speak out about the issues, but she has helped spotlight them in various episodes of Bones, thereby delivering an animal protection message to a huge primetime audience.”

Deschanel has worked with the organization on dog fighting, factory farming and California’s Proposition 2 campaigns.
