Aaron Sorkin Vs. Sarah Palin–Palin Fires Back Over Caribou Killing
Written by Vegetarian Star on December 9th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Authors, Directors and Producers, Food & Drink, Politicians.
Aaron Sorkin, writer and producer with credits like “The West Wing” and “A Few Good Men” under his belt, wrote an editorial in the Huffington Post decrying Sarah Palin‘s caribou killing on her TLC show “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.”
Sorkin, a meat eater, said there’s a difference between killing animals for food and doing so for sport, which he accused Palin of doing. Palin has since fired back in an email to the Associated Press.
“I’m able to make a distinction between you and me without feeling the least bit hypocritical. I don’t watch snuff films and you make them. You weren’t killing that animal for food or shelter or even fashion, you were killing it for fun. You enjoy killing animals. I can make the distinction between the two of us but I’ve tried and tried and for the life of me, I can’t make a distinction between what you get paid to do and what Michael Vick went to prison for doing. I’m able to make the distinction with no pangs of hypocrisy even though I get happy every time one of you faux-macho shitheads accidentally shoots another one of you in the face.”
Read Palin’s response below.
“So a left-wing Hollywood producer thinks there is no ‘distinction’ between harvesting healthy, wild organic protein to feed my family and engaging in dog fighting? I didn’t know anyone ate dogs, tanned the hides, and made boots out of them.”
Well, well, well. Things are starting to get nasty.
Sorkin made a good point in his argument, but so did Palin. Rudolph was not factory farmed. Most meat Sorkin continues to eat probably is. He sure would be able to stick it to Palin harder if he mentioned he’s trying to reduce his meat intake and taking up Meatless Monday.

I love how Sarah Palin uses the word “harvesting,” as though the caribou were a mushroom or a blueberry.
They both sound ridiculous to me–there is no real difference between them. Sorkin doesn’t make a sport out of killing animals but by eating them he is supporting people who kill as many as they possibly can.

I flat out refuse to accept this idea that Sarah Palin was “collecting protein to feed [her] family.” I mean, truly, does anyone think that someone as rich and famous as this woman needs to kill, skin, clean and dress a wild animal to feed her children? Is that really something we are capable of believing?
The point Sorkin was making was that IF Palin were killing that animal to eat it, that would be one thing, but she wasn’t. She just plain was not. There is no way on Earth I can be convinced that if those cameras weren’t there, and that show weren’t being filmed, that Sarah Palin would have spent that afternoon out hunting. She killed this animal for no other reason than for political gain. It was not survival. It was not self-preservation, do-it-yourself-ism, pullin yerself up by yer own bootstraps, or any of the other meaningless platitudes this haircut so often vomits out on her astonishingly awful ‘reality’ show. She gleefully shot an animal to make herself more popular.
