A New Jersey online news publication, NJ.com, just completed part 2 of an interview with vegan triathlete, author and vegan foods entrepreneur Brendan Brazier.

NJ.com asked Brazier if he missed anything in particular being since he became vegan. His response was that if you’re following the diet correctly, you shouldn’t have big problems with cravings.

“I don’t miss any of the foods I ate before becoming vegan. At first I would crave certain things, but as my body became more and more accustomed to getting whole food, plant-based fuel, I stopped wanting to eat unhealthy foods. In fact, something I really appreciate about my diet now is that I don’t have cravings for any specific foods.”

“Cravings are a form of mental clutter. A well-balanced plant-based diet can eliminate them. This is one of the best ways to become a better problem- solver. If, however, your brain regularly craves something, it is focused on that one thing and therefore will not allow thoughts to flow. Without cravings for any food, I find I’m also more alert and productive.”

In other words, fixating on the chocolate bar and cheesy fries all day long makes it hard to get work done in a cubicle.

An article at MSNBC discusses the various probable causes of cravings and whether some can be ignored. After a long day, blood sugar levels may drop so low it’s hard to realize you don’t need a bucket of fries and ice cream because hunger sensations are too intense. That’s where snacking throughout the day can help.

We can’t help but crave some of the top 10 Vegetarian Snacks, which include good sources of plant protein like refried beans with baked tortilla chips, organic oatmeal and organic fruit with peanut butter. Combination protein/good carb snacks like these go straight to your brain and not your thighs–leaving you satisfied and able to get through the day without going home to raid the fridge before dinner.
